So I replaced my old Geforce8800GTS and my 420W PSU with a GTX560TI and a 550W Corsair PSU.

I can run other games like AVP2010 And STALKER COP with everything on Max with DX11 effects on, but TF2 runs like crap! I have tried several Nvidia drivers, the latest Official, and the latest beta, I have even tried an older driver that came with the GPU. Nothing helps!

Temperatures are fine, and TF2 runs ok sometimes, but only with few players, but even then there is a weird micro stutter plus lots of screen tearing that won't go away, even if I enable V-sync, and when there is a lot of action, the game stutters like crazy.

I don't get it, since other games work fine (both new and old).

Any help would be appreciated.

Ps. I'm running Windows7 X64 with 4GB DDR2 Ram. and all the mentioned games ran fine before I replaced my hardware.

Unsure how to explain this well but though I do not know what sort of CPU you have it seems like you are getting CPU limited, basically your GPU is working very well but in doing so it puts a strain or a sort of demand on the CPU to send more data or info or how to describe it which causes this micro-stuttering since the GPU has to wait for the CPU to catch up and the game must wait on the CPU to become "available", this isn't usually much of a issue but in the other games you use as a example the GPU is being worked heavily and thus it's limited to how much it can request or how to describe this properly.

Various game engines load different components such as RAM, CPU, GPU and the like differently and balance these loads and workarounds in different ways, older titles will be more CPU reliant as the GPU will speed ahead since it's not limited by anything and if the games have a high CPU demand already such as Source engine (And in multiplayer as well.) it might be what is causing this.

Just a theory though. Smile

EDIT: Throttling or limiting framerate might work, can't fully remember how you can tune the later installments of Source Engine but there should be something, VSync should have helped though but it depends on how it's utilized, tripple buffering should be enabled as well for best effect. Smile

Sounds like a CPU bottleneck, what CPU have you got and which resolution do you play on?

Thx for helping guys!. I think you are both right about me being CPU limited, as my CPU is only a Q6600 2.40 GHZ.
My Res is 1680X1050.

I will try to enable V-sync and triple buffering and all TF2 settings to the Max to see if it helps. Smile

I will also looks for a way to throttle the framerate for the latest source engine (If anybody knows how then please share your wisdom Smile

This feels like a problem of luxury Very Happy To think that I would have hardware so powerful that I have to overburden it, is kinda funny Imo Smile

You know, even if I'm Cpu limited, I think my problems have something to do with Nvidia's 560TI compatible drivers.
Today I have tried several and nothing helped.

But after trying out JB's tips, I didn't solve my problem either. I found the framerate limiter command for TF2 and it works (sort of), the command is called FPS_MAX and you can set it from 0 to 300.
I tried 60, then 59, and it helped a little but I still got screen tearing like crazy and some microstuttering (My monitor can do 60Hz) like I was above 60! I also tried to limit the framerate with V-sync on, but that isn't a good option since it will often drop to only 30 fps (And still I get tearing like hell...).

If this is not a driver issue, then I don't know what to think.

Yeah try maxing *everything* out to make sure you're not CPU bound, but TF2 is a pretty CPU intensive game. Been a while since I played it (or any Source game for that matter), but fiddle with fps_max and such (fuck yea, a proper game with a console <3).

TF2 got the multi-core rendering update as well right? Is that turned on?

Been meaning to reinstall the game anyway, so I'll give it a go tomorrow Smile

Edit: also check CPU usage while the game is running; 1680x1050 is a pretty "low" resolution nowadays so it'll be hard to get TF2 to really stress that card out

Multi-core rendering IS turned on.

I will continue to fiddle around. I can't believe that I find myself in a situation that gives poor gameplay just because I upgraded the GPU Very Happy I mean, I have played TF2 smoothly for 500 hours with my old GF8800GTS and my current q6600. Smile
