This game is just so many kinds of pure awesome that like you can see, I don't think it belongs to any genre except that of itself.

Highly recommended:
JA2 v1.13: fixes a load of stuff, improves bits and made some great mods possible. Best part? New version coming Spring 2011 (changelog below) Very Happy

Best squad-level strategy game I've ever played (even better than XCOM IHMO) - but yeah, trying to classify it in one genre is definately impossible. What I really liked, though, is that it had lots and lots of rpg elements - dialogues with multiple choices, tons of sidequests you could complete for NPCs in the various cities, mercenaries with their own personalities (and sometimes they didn't get on well with each other) and an enormous amount of freedom. Truly one of the best games I've ever played.

I was experiencing some strange artifacts on my current rig, but installing it on my laptop "resolved" those issues. Maybe some incompatibility problems with W7 x64?

Anyway, it looks much better with a smaller monitor, so I'm not really complaining

I've re-installed it (GOG version 1.1.2.0.), re-applied the 1.13 Community mod and now it's working perfectly. Bah, who knows what was stopping it from working fine before Razz

One of the best games ever!
I enjoyed the Unfinished Business addon as well. Even though most of the RPG elements were stripped the fights were just brutal and fierce. I remember killing a sniper on the roof and crawling to the edge only to be interrupted by a fucking HORDE of soldiers on the ground and blown off the edge. On the highest difficulty setting + Iron Man you were finally forced to use chemical lights, nades and flanking, attempting to take most city sectors during the day was a suicide.

AAAah gonna reinstall both games now. Very Happy

I just completed a playthrough of 1.13. I thought it was a bit easy once I outfitted my mercs with armor and HK G3A3 AS rifles. Only real problem was heavy weapons, I only had 3 guys with heavy weapons.
I posted the cursor in the game, and many other games, in the useless void a few months back.
I find it to be the best cursor possible, and use it on all my OS's.

This is the latest version of 1.13 with all the fancy features included. It is by far the most stable version we have ever released.

Time for another reinstall I guess. Very Happy

I've been using the unstable dev builds for years now. I remember seeing some ancient version on that page (like 2010 or something). Then I found out about the latest dev builds. Using that over the last stable version was like using that over vanilla. These guys mean serious business with this one. If the last version you played was that ancient one, prepare to be amazed.
