|
 |
Ok so I'm not going into too much detail, but I'm a member of one of these societies, specifically the Triple Nine, I've been a member since I was 21. I very rarely engage with any other members, and have only been to one physical meeting 3 years ago, it was awkward and involved a lot of IQ-cock measuring, I only talked to a few other members but in every conversation the question "So what was your score?" was asked. I hated it, I don't actually believe that IQ quotients represent the entirety of an individuals reasoning ability.
There are certain benefits to being a member, financial benefits, which is the only reason I maintain my membership. I don't really want to go into detail about what these benefits are, suffice to say that if you've got a student loan debt, it helps a lot. I was a bit reckless with my student loan practices, and I was in education for a long time, thus I really don't want to have to start paying back the annual proportion I should be given my income.
Anyway to the point; since I'll have been a member for five years this year, I have been notified that I am due for an updated standardisation IQ test in order to maintain my membership.
Now the majority of the test is a breeze, but my primary weakness is what's known as Raven's Progressive Matrices, I get over 90% correct (fail last time was anything less then 88% and I got 96%) but I take way to long over it and have to rush the rest of the test. It puts my membership qualification in jeopardy since I only scored 9 IQ points over the required membership score the first time. Not a sure thing at all when it comes to IQ tests.
Spoiler: | I've edited out the specifics, just in case it's considered requesting. But I'm looking for 2010 Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices Long UK 'pratice papers' It has specifically has to be the long version. Check out this site http://www.talentlens.co.uk for the kind of thing I mean |
This post is a kind of last resort really, I posted a similar thing on a couple more 'official' IQ related forums and I got banned by the pedantic wankers. But I know there are people here who can at least point me in the right direction. Torrents and Usenet have failed me!!1
I don't think I'm requesting anything illegal here, but if a mod thinks this is inappropriate then please just edit the post and don't ban me. Thx!

so if i understand it right, you belong to a club of IQ ass holes that give you the benefit of sponsoring your student loan, to be in that club you have to pass a Raven's Advanced Progressive Matrices TEST ... so you are looking for a book or a test that has the right answers to PASS this test
good luck on finding those personality tests most of them costs 900$

Heh, this is like a test. Who would be able to actually help him, and who would have their insecurities run rampant with them. I suppose you were expecting these kinds of answers.
I know nothing about what it is you're asking for AnimalMother. Yet I should think that if you practice at something that is supposed to measure an innate ability/quotient, you sort of cheat the test.
I once did one of those (probably fake) MENSA-tests and it said I had an IQ of 133, then I had a friend explain some of the MENSA-trial questions for me once, "this is how they work, this is what they're looking for and this is how you solve them". Once explained to me it became more clear to me how to solve them, I found a pattern in the questions asked and suddenly improved my result.
Our military service measured this, but the swedish military back when I did this only used a nine-graded score range. I received a 7 back then. All the spontaneous tests I've done have put me somewhere between 120-150 with the revised american military IQ-system.
Every time you have a discussion regarding IQ you will have people who believe it is all a big hoax, not seldom are these the ones that have tried several such tests and had their egos deflated and hence made great disbelievers. Then of course there's the ones in the high 150's who are great at solving complex puzzles yet have barely achieved anything in life outside of getting good grades in math and programming with the social ability of a clubbed to death chimpansee proclaiming themselves the Einsteins of the postmodern age.
I foresee this going nowhere.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

all that ego stroking is why I got out of mensa, also I couldn't be bothered with the annual meetings.
Wasn't the general concensus in that other thread that cheating was wrong?
fyi my iq is 165, though being in the autism spectrum I may have an advantage, whats yours?

Ah IQ tests, always funny how organistations and people consider it so important. The whole fucking "IQ" thing is so arbitrary and useless. I could write a whole thesis about the fact that human intelligence is impossible to quantify in mere numbers.

Wow. I hate this thread and what it seems to do to a lot of people who post in it. I normally like people, a lot, but this is just sad.
On a related matter, I don't think penis size is a good yardstick for measuring how well you can please a woman. Men with small penises are still somewhat decent human beings. My penis is huge btw.

The fact is that I'm asking for something that you usually have to not only pay for but also have some fucking Certificate of Competence in Occupational Testing Qualification Code to be able to purchase. People have been banned for requesting less on this forum.
The point of this thread is that I can't afford at the moment the APR that I would normally be paying if I wasn't a member. It was never an issue before, but now my income would mean I have to start paying it off at an extremely high interest rate. I was in education for almost 7 years, so the debt is not inconsiderate.
I'm not looking for answers, these tests don't work like that. I'm looking for the scoring key, so I can practice in advance, it's something you're given during the test, but I just take too long over it because I know the scoring has to be almost perfect. It's personality related more then anything.
So whatever, I'll just have to turn up on the day and hope that I'm not ill or sleep deprived or anything else which could be detrimental to my performance.
Like I mentioned before, I don't believe IQ scores are indicative of overall intellectual performance. Like Fisk mentions there are many individuals with high IQ's that just fail at life, there were plenty at the membership meeting.
This is about money, plain and simple. Yes, I expected lots of insecure posts that had no real relevance. I also realise that it's unlikely anyone here could help me, but it would have meant I wouldn't be stressing out the week before the test.

Thanks for trying at least.
As an aside, the individual with the highest IQ at the meeting I went to was a mid-forties housewife, who's most notable achievement was as a failed author of romantic fiction, having written 3 novels, but having none of them published. Her IQ was 186...
Bit more information in case anyone gives a fook:-
The National Longitudinal Surveys (http://www.bls.gov/nls) have found that on average, atheists have an IQ ~6 points higher then those who have dogmatic persuasions.
It has been found that IQ scores have a high degree of positive correlation with general health and achievement, but only up to a score of 120. After that other personal factors take precedence. (http://archpsyc.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/abstract/63/11/1238) (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC30556/?tool=pmcentrez)
I don't think anyone can deny that achieving a PhD in Physics at 15 years old indicates a definite intellectual capacity beyond most humans, IQ 210. http://www.woosk.com/2009/04/kim-ung-yong-attended-university-at-age-4-phd-at-age-15-worlds-highest-iq.html
The only people who claim that IQ scores mean nothing, are those who are insecure about their intellect. But only a fool would claim that a high IQ is any guarantee of success.

My IQ is 209, but I've decided to keep a low profile, completing my studies in the standard time, or better still, I'm so humble that it's taking even longer than expected!

It's lower then yours...
You know depending on the standard deviation of the test/s you took that averaged that result, you would be considered to have an IQ indicative of near genius to genius ability.
Is there any particular academic discipline you excel at? |
Yes programming, I'm very good at low level asm and c languages, of course I can do high level as well; it being easier. At my work I use c++ and some low level stuff, I work as a systems engineer. I don't hold a doctorate as I find university research boring and ungratifying when I never see my work in practice - I had started a phd but never finished it as I got bored with it.
Aside from that when I was in kindergarten, I was believed to be retarded, as I didn't engage in social matters on the same level as the other children.
It wasn't until later that it was realised that I was very skilled in a very narrow area and not particularly at other areas - areas I've since then spent an obscene amount of time training and bettering myself in.

Your not the only one. I've come across quite a few people who are excellent programmers, and just average in math.
Just becuase you find math boring, dosent mean your bad at it either. Mathmatics can be very artistic, and so can programming. And like chiv said earlier, juding someones IQ based on a test is silly.
Because you cant test imagination if you ask me, and thats key in both mathmatics, and programming.
