OK
Got this old AMD 1.2 Ghz PC which i was going to use as a download pc and was working fine untill the HDD broke.
Not having a spare one it was outta use for a month or so untill i found a 5gig one which was working fine when test in another pc but when i went to put it in the amd pc it didn't work so i checked it again in another pc and it did.
Basically this AMD PC did not send the HDD or the CD Drive in there any power but power is still being sent to the motherbord.
I tried the system out with another PSU and the same thing happens.
Any solutions?
Thanks

first of all try to disconnect the power cords from the board, only connect the power to the cd-drive and the hd. Do they get power without the board connected?

Do you have a small jumper pin on back of the harddrive and is it set for master.
also look to see if your bios picks the drive up..

The jumper is set to master and no the BIOs is not picking it up as it csn't as no power is going into it.

Sounds to me like your IDE is dead, do you have anyone around with a PCI IDE controller? Maybe go pick up a cheap one from the local computer shop and test that out. Maybe the cable is dead too?
