I really hate it. Getting out of bed is one of the most difficult things for me on any day. Falling asleep however is very easy and delightful. Me and my bed attract each other like magnets.

Of course I've tried the easy way, drinking coffee. I got used to the caffeine however and had to drink more and more coffee. Which turned out to be completely counterproductive: I got a caffeine overdose and was sick for two days.

So now I'm experimenting with the hard way: cycling in wind and cold for an hour to wake up. And it seems to work Smile

Try waking up at different times. 15 mins earlier or later than usual for example. If it doesn't work, try 15 mins extra until you find a time that works for you. Usually I feel groggy for 3 hours after waking up but if I find my sweet spot I wake up and I'm fully up and running within 20 minutes. The science behind it seems to be finding the proper time to wake up exactly at an end of a REM cycle, and not in a middle of one. This only happens if you use alarm clocks or such.

But once you do find the sweet spot, be sure to keep to your schedule. Sleeping different on one weekend is enough to mess it up.

Most of your problems, including mass poop logs, could be cured by either smoking or drinking in moderation Wink

I had a terrible problem with this, I started setting my alarm 30 mins ahead of time and I literally hit the snooze button 6 times before I wake up, might seem lazy but lets me get the satisfaction of not getting out of bed while the snooze button gradually starts to irritate / wake me up.

- NEVER jump out of bed - always snooze or just lie in bed a bit
- yes, snooze button on alarm clock is great, i usually do two or three
- sleep in sequences of 3 hours: either 3 or 6 or 9 (there's a lot written about this, google if you want)
- eat something as soon as you wake up: a tiny bit of a cracker or an apple bite would do - food boots your body instantly

and finally - maybe you're just a night person and then nothing will ever help you until you change your entire life (working till very late and coming to office in the afternoon)

I've been known to snooze for 1.5h, with 5 min snooze. But that's after I lost all my willpower to wake up. Usually I was quite determined and on time as far as waking up was concerned.

Aye..on real bad days I can do it for an hour or two, but the strategy helped me from being a person who was constantly tardy to work to someone who is in the office at least 30 mins ahead of time every day, making coffee to prepare to the workday

I found one thing that helps me awake. Exercise. When I wake up I stretch and do 10-15 push ups and sit ups, and that gets the blood flowing Wink

After that it's coffee to boost me up and speed up my bathroom time grinhurt

And I'm avoiding snoozing. Once I 'snoozed' and woke 3 hrs later grinhurt I was really rested but missed a class in uni grinhurt

snoozing is awesome, i can do that for 5 hours straight Laughing

but more often than not, it's a psychological/psychosomatic thing...if you're having trouble getting out of bed, it could be depression or something similar, not just laziness.

as for the "i'm out of bed, but still sleepy, what now" routine, here's what works for me: cigarette + red bull (add vodka if it's a day@uni, more vodka if @lab, add redbull to bottle of vodka if teaching kids), hot/cold shower, take a dump - all ready to go.

and exercise in the morning? ewww. sex after waking up is nice tho, as long as the woman does the work Laughing

I'm a night person, I hate getting up in the morning.

I have found out however, that around 7 hours of sleep is the best amount for me. If I get 9 or more it usually takes longer for me to really wake up. Smile

lazy bum

i can sleep 10h in weekends.
But in workweeks, if I have a meeting at 8, you can bet I am awake when the alarms goes. You having troubles when you really have to do something or be somewhere?

Normally I have no fixed starting time @work, I get in when I want, I leave when I want. I want to have my mails checked, facebook and newspapers done @ 10, so I get in between 9h15 and 9h30. Very effective system, although it requires some self enforcement. Staying in bed is costing me newspaper time :/

the best thing to do really is setting a fixed time to wake up (more or less) every day, even if you could sleep a few extra hours on the weekends. when i was freelancing/being a lazy ass student, i always had trouble getting up. nowadays when i have to get up at 8 every day anyway, it's much easier to get up, no matter how much sleep i had. sometimes i wouldn't even need the alarm clock to wake up at the right time

How I envy you! I have alway had trouble getting asleep and when I eventually do, staying asleep for more than an hour or so without waking up. In all my working life I have never needed an alarm clock (although I have one and set it just in case!) and have never been late for work. 7am is a lay in for me wether I am working that day or not Sad

You know what helps me? (most of the time that is)
Sounds stupid, I know, but there are thse alarm clocks that simulate daylight and the rising sun.
Expensive as hell but for it normally works.

Wow, massive response and I'm seeing some useful feedback in here. I'm not going to smoke or drink however. Drinking deprives you of some deep sleep (according to a neurologist I spoke to at a specialized sleep centre) and smoking... seems bad for a number of obvious reasons Very Happy

I also know I'm a night person. I go to bed completely rested and when I wake up I'm wrecked. Slowly during the day I'll regain some vitality and at night I feel fit again. Strangely I have little difficulties falling asleep.

I've had my sleep examined thoroughly by neurologists some time ago, the main complaint being I sleep too long and feel wrecked during the day. Strangely no cause was found and the doctors were happy to see a patient that wasn't an insomniac for once.

What are the odds: yesterday I had one of those rare nights I just couldn't sleep. I was wide awake. I went to bed at 11PM and got up again at 1.30PM. I had no idea what the fuck I was going to do, since it was the middle of the night and every sane living being was asleep. So I did some paperwork, got back to bed at 2.30AM, and finally slept at 3.30AM or so. That's one fucked up night for my standards.

The irony is I woke easily at 9AM and got up. Wtf!! So getting up seems to be harder for me if I go to bed earlier. I just don't get it anymore. Should I go to bed really late...? That just doesn't feel right.
