Panzer Corps

[*]Official web page: LINK
[*]Developer: The Lordz Game Studios
[*]Genre: Wargame - Turn Based Strategy
[*]Release date: 11/07/2011
[*]Story/Description:

Quote:

In 1994 Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI) released a title that would change the face of strategy gaming forever. Panzer General delivered an exceptionally easy to learn gameplay system and was such a captivating game that it became a benchmark for future designers for years to come.
In 2011 a project developed by The Lordz Games Studio and published by Slitherine, will see fans of the series rejoice for the release of Panzer Corps. Following in the footsteps of the popular SSI masterpiece and sharing with the General series the same level of engagement and strategic depth, Panzer Corps will keep an unmistakable "PG feeling" whilst improving and refining the gameplay and balance.
Iain McNeil, director of Development at Slitherine said: "With this game we are trying to bring the golden age of strategy gaming back to its roots. This game is Slitherine's homage to one of the greatest strategy titles of all time and we are working hard to ensure we capture the flavor of that masterpiece, yet update it with features and a graphical style that will appeal to a modern strategy gamer".

Panzer Corps will feature 26 scenarios on 21 unique maps, covering most major battles of the European Theatre of World War II and including a few hypothetical 'what if' scenarios based on your actions.

[*]Multiplayer: Active PBEM
[*]System requirements: TBA

A successor of Panzer General. The main developer is the one who developed Panzer General Forever.
So I'm sure it will have the spirit of the legacy, which is still IMO, the best computer wargame.

Cool. Loved Panzer General back in the day. The 3D version sucked, but hopefully a revival of the series will be worthy.

I agree that the 3D version didn't live to the excellency of the legacies. Even Panzer General II was not as good.

This will be the begin of a serie.

We see Panzer Corps as a whole new game series really, so an Allied and Pacific version are on our wishlist for sure.

Also found this :

It's a remake from the original Panzer General, made by one of the devs of Panzer Corps.
It's one of the reasons why I have high hopes with this title.

They pretty well know that those who played Panzer General are going to get this. Niche game for a niche market, I doubt they think they going to be the years biggest hit lol.

I too, got invited to beta, and it really seems to be the second coming of Panzer General.
I couldn't wish any better thing for a wargame.

If only Strategic Simulations Inc.,MicroProse and some others still existed today.Companies that produced so many great memorable titles and really showed the love in what they designed.Instead,we have shit companies that could care less what the consumer wants. It really disgusts me to see all that greatness of those times that we are now missing in this age.

Panzer General was a great game but in those days and even now I still prefer tactical level war games. The strategic and operational level games didn't appeal to me as much as games like Steel Panthers and 1944 Across The Rhine did.Certainly good to hear though that another game is coming soon.

Yes, after playing a little more, I can definitely say it's Panzer General, not only in how it looks, but in its soul too. It's very addicting and I'm loosing the sense of time when playing. I didn't had this feeling in a game, since.... I don't remember.
So this year, after all, I'll end up having the return of 2 great franchises. DX:HR and Panzer Corps seem to be worthy reboots.

(Motherfucking Imageshack. Don't use it, it has blocked my country)

I'm in the beta but I don't really get this game's ... "strategy". I'm really into ww2 history and have spent hours reading about combat actions of various units etc.

But I've played a little and all i'm doing is ganging up on enemy units and attacking till they die. I don't like the ridiculous abstractions, turnbased, hex-based map, 10 points health system, instant-reinforcements, nothing happens in the battle, boooring.

Can someone set me in the straight path, or is this just the way it is ?

@VGAdeadcafe
There are different type of wargames, PC is more a strategical and operational one.
That doesn't mean you've to kill all the enemy units, but because they will defend the key hexes (normally cities) that you've to conquer and also counterattack your units, you end up by killing most of its units. The 10th point health system it's the strength of the unit. During combat its numbers will be reduced if you don't reinforce them. To reinforce it cost prestige points, that you win, for example, by conquering those key hexes, the objectives. In more difficult scenarios and in during a campaign you'll find that it's not so easy to reinforce or to buy any new units that you want.
About the turn based and nothing happens in the battles... I don't think you don't want to play this kind of games. Maybe you feel more "comfortable" in RTS type of games like RUSE.
For me the beauty of PG or PC begins in that, it's a really classic turn based system.

There are guys who would have killed to have accessed to that beta.
