Hi,
I have just built a PC and I am having a weird problem regarding the floppy disk drive. Initially I built the system and screwed everything in as it should be. I then noticed the floppy drive won't read discs. Every disc I put in the drive just gives me a message saying the disc is not formatted even though there are files which are perfectly readable on it! If I plug in the drive but leave it outside the case it works fine! I have tried different drives and different brands but the problem occurs when the screws are put into it. Does anyone know why this might be or has anyone come across it before? I am totally baffled and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes that sounds like the screws are driving current from the floppy to the chassis. Try using rubber rings between the chassi and the screews. Even if that's the case somethings wrong with your floppy drive. What brand is it? Floppy drives are pure crap, It's much better to put a 7in1 card reader or something like that and use SD or CF cards.

Glad it worked. Sony are good ones but I don't know anything about ALPS. Remember that same rule aplies to motherboards when attaching them to the chassi.
