Hello guys
I live in India and while the PS3 is available here I was wondering whether it would make a difference in quality if I buy the PS3 from Japan. As in will the build quality be better and stuff...
My friend says that there are 2 types of models available in Japan - one which is the local one running on 100V power made for the japanese market costing 37000 yen (445$) and the other one is the overseas model costing 50000 yen which will work internationally (600$). So should I go for it ? If I buy it from India it will be cheaper but I am wary about the quality.

they all contain a universal power transformer I had thought, so should work wherever you plug them all in the world. My ps3 was a JPN one. Got it dead cheap for about £140 about 2-3 years ago now. Only thing you have to really consider is if warranty is important to you, as you have none if you buy an import console.

I don't know, but Blu-Rays might be region locked. I have no idea if India is in the same region as China and Japan, but it probably is. So there would be no problem with that either.

only locked for movies not for games , but if you JBhack it you can RF your PS3

i had a ps3 remote bundled with it so well i use my ps3 as a bd player

yeah the blurays are region locked, you will not be able to play protected retail disks if your in a different region. Games are fine, however if you are not using a HDTV some different region games will not output the signal on a SDTV. GTAIV for example.

That's a very patriotic thing to say  . I think the quality would be the same, it's all made in the same factory. Even Apple's Macs are assembled there (Foxconn mega factory) so that's gotta be worth something

All Engineers , designers are Indians (You should be proud) quality is same as in India as in US/Japan

No man... in fact I bought my X360, mobile everything from India!!! Its just that Sony loves screwing everyone here... their QC here is not that great. I got burnt twice (Walkman component died just after a year, repair costs were 90% of the cost of the walkie!! , then my All in one player went kaputz.....) So that is why I had asked.
