Intros are pretty important to the game setting IMO. Today more and more intros are in game which is not necessarily a bad thing, but harder to distinguish on what is an "intro" and not.
Anyways, below are same personal favorites, ranked.
1. Oblivion
2. Battlefield 1942
3. FF VIII
4. Fallout 3
5. Mafia
6. Curse of Monkey island.
Even though I´ve been gaming since ´87 I realize a lot of these intros are rather recent so it´s not really fair to the older generation games. But life is not fair.
What are some other personal favorites of yours?

I saw things like that in here and in other "woman problems" topics so...... Am I the only one that thinks some authorities needs to be alerted about Saner and him possibly being a rapist and/or kidnapper ?
Saner is not being serious. Unless its the subject of Santa!
The whole first level of God of War 3 is fucking epic

but you know what Chinese whispers are like; some newbie will read your comment and suddenly run and spread it all over the internet that the new 2010 Banwave disables all your XBLA games when you're banned.

Yeah FMV intros were quite the sensation in the mid 90's. "Digital video... OOOHHHH!" That knocked the shit out of your crappy VHS tapes Today elaborate intros aren't that special for me anymore.
Anyway... I really likes Vagrant Story's intro on the PSX
But why the fuck did I have to sell that game...!

Lots of Epic intros here, some I haven´t seen and that was also the thought with the thread.
Been watching these for over an hour now...haha. Never got around to freelancer or prototype for example. Very cool intros.
But damn, watching the homeworld intro again - great memories. What a game...
Some other games I really want to play now such as the darkness since it´s gotten decent reviews.
The witcher I never got around to either, need to fire that up too.
And Total Annihilation - meeeemories.
Great stuff, makes me want to fire up some games that I never got around to before!
And I do agree that intros today aren't AS important for me as before, probably because the gap between prerendered and in game graphics is a lot closer now so setting is also set more effectively in game today. A really good intro (in game or not) can still make quite a difference for me though.
