Waited a long long time for a good nforce4 motherboard and now the first has arrived. It has some better features than the other nforce4 cards like the enabled sata2 controller and dual gbit ethernet.
It's very good reading and explains a lot of things.

Quote: | The Asus A8N-SLI motherboard is the Athlon64 platform which high-end users should be looking at for a new system. The nForce4 chipset has quite a feature lead over competing Athlon64 platforms at this time, and has a dynamite setup onboard components, including dual GigE ports, a hardware Firewall, SATA-II RAID, SATA RAID-5, and ten USB 2.0 ports, not to mention PCI Express and SLI connectivity. While the boards are easily the most expensive Athlon64 platforms on the market today, the feature set is unmatched in comparison to other platforms. Asus’s reign at the top won’t last for long though, as similar nForce4 SLI boards from Gigabyte and MSI are on their way shortly. |
A shit man I can't even imagine the power of running double WD 10000rpm together with the inbuilt SATA 2 (300mb/s) controller.
Quote: | The performance numbers speak for themselves. Even two mid-range GeForce 6 class cards in an SLI configuration can best ATI's best GPU currently on the market, the Radeon X800 XT. With such a small gap between the X800 XT and the upcoming X850 XT, it's likely that nVidia will still hold the performance lead by quite a large margin when SLI technology is taken into account. Keep in mind, all of our testing is done with mid-range GeForce 6600 / 6800 cards, whereas the high-end GeForce 6800 GT/Ultra PCIe cards will be along in early 2005 in volume. It’s hard to think that ATI will be able to counter nVidia’s high-end cards in SLI-mode with any kind of single GPU setup. |
Sounds very good though ati still beats the shit out of nvidia with hl2 and bf vietnam + some other games. I'm talking about one x800 card versus two 6600gt cards.
Here is also a "first look" on the Gigabyte K8NXP-9 nForce4 card at anandtech: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2273.
