Of course they are. Anyone who thinks that they haven't been working on their next console since the moment the PS3 rolled out the door is only fooling themselves. The same goes for MS and whatever they call the next xbox. And Nintendo, of course.

Err, the point is that by publicly announcing that, the official announcement can't be that far away (I bet E3 2012).

Blehh, i hate new consoles and the wait for it to be hacked if these will be hacked. I bet they will have much improved security.

I think PS3 proved it can pretty much remain hack-proof...if they haven't had that one issue it still would be.
I don't think new console generation will get hacked any time soon, if ever. Unless some larger company actually invests proper money into doing so, it's getting out of reach of a normal hacker.
But just guessing here.

Who cares if they can hack it, it's not like most games are worth playing anyways, i've bought 3 games for my 360 since like ~1.5 years back, instead of updating it / flashing it again.. can't say i really miss the option of playing pirate games because there's so few games actually worth playing, and the few good ones (RDR, L.A Noire) are so good they're actually worth buying and supporting.

I've heard it will be "the first console ever to be controlled by one button only." I've also heard that "we are doubling the VRAM for the PS4 to 512MB and we will get rid of BluRay and move exclusively to online distribution of our games." By this they "manage to achieve new levels of performance and visual quality. Our new online distribution makes it possible to download and install DLC real-time and on the run." "Imagine you are running around in a town in the next GTA:DT, you want to buy a new Safe house. We are now offering the possibility to choose and buy from a catalogue in game. The house will be downloaded and built directly ingame."
This will be a huge step forward for console gaming and gaming in general.

I don't know anything about JTAG so I wont go into that. Just wanted to correct you thats not all console hacking involves finding issues and exploiting them.
It's usually via a way of modchip, or in xboxs case, a firmware hack, where protection is avoided or removed (unlike hacking a game exe).
With new generations we will however have to rely on issues such as the one on PS3, and one used for JTAG, to get stuff working, which is basically just relying on luck for the devs to make an error.

Dear Sony, please add some good hardware this time. Alittle more memory than the ps3 and something that'll last a few years and be able to anti-aliase etc

True. With Hypervisor Mode/ User Mode separation, code signing and e-fuse anti-downgrade technology hacking console will become more and more difficult, and will always need to rely on some bug to exploit. The DVD Firmware hack on x360 was made possible only by a dumb design choice made by the x360 engineers, namely: the drive's firmware isn't signed. And I doubt M$ will make the same mistake again. Sony's BR drive uses signed firmware, and in fact it was never hacked llike the 360 one. As for ps3, the hack was made possible thanks to the leaked usb dongles to put the console in debug mode, I doubt without those there would be an hack today.

Rumors mention it'll have a 6.3Ghz octacore, the newest iteration of AMD's RV780 generation GPUs running at 1560Mhz, and 384MB system RAM.

WHY THE FUCK NOT 2gig of ram ???? splintered to 1gig for GPU and 1 gig for CPU
as of now PS3 has 512ram but in reality its only 256 ram for gpu and 256 for CPU
thats why they textures and resolutions SUX and are forced to use heavy streaming from the HDD to keep up with so they force you to install each game to HDD...creating for each game a virtual memory on you hdd to keep up with streaming... even the vita has more RAM THEN PS3 !!!
when xbox has 512ram that can be used by cpu and gpu at the same time
if that ram is true then SONY WTF !!??

Nice excuse perhaps to stop pirating and just buy the normal console. No shit with hacks, bans and hardware failure. Xbox is nerdy anyway so I think I'll stab bill fucking Gates in the back and embrace the Jap uber machine

This is when I stop buying consoles entirely or only buy them when they are hacked.
Sony proved that you wont save money buying top titles online, so paying £40 for a downloadable game.
Sony...I dont fucking think so.

It's amazing how they get ther graphics the developers do these days out of the ps3 like with games like gran tourismo 5.
Seeing how there is no memory hardly in the ps3, hopefully they put some real hardware in the next gen consoles.
Ryzen 5 3600 cpu@3.60 Mhz.
hyper x 32 gb ddr 4 memory.
Msi Carbon gaming pro ac motherboard.
Evga 600 psu.
Msi Armour rx 8 gb 5700 Graphic card.
Ps4 Standard 500gb.
Lg 4k 42 inch tv.
Oculus Quest 2.
