Big names, and no fucking Uwe Boll Razz

Could be good, could also be terrible, what do you guys think?

As long as it's live action, using good writers, believable characters and NOT using Ewe Boll to direct tb will give it the benefit of the doubt.

The only way I see this universe work in any other way than in video games is as TV series, allowing enough time to flesh out the characters involved and their stories (like what happens in the game). We'll see. Razz

My thought as well, but there are plenty of games that have enough story for a good number of seasons for a TV series, and I don't see it happening Sad

i disagree... you wouldnt have a big enough budget, nor would you have decent enough talent behind it if it was a tv or mini series.

best chance this franchise has, is breaking the games up into 6 or so movies, 2 for each game, thus spreading the budget and allowing adequate time for building up characters and the background. chuck in the standard 'set of 7 anime movies set within the universe' dvd to flesh it out a little more, and youve got a chance at success.

but personally, id rather have seen bioware try and get the movie made themselves... hollywood has done nothing but fuck up game franchises when turning them into quick-buck movies.

and before anyone calls me out and says 'but what about babylon 5, of which mass effect could technically be called a watered down version of'... well that was made BY the creator of the franchise, in a different time, when episodes didnt need to be filled with teen drama bullshit in order to sell well.

Its probably going to be alot about the characters, lots of romances and similar to the Star Trek movie.
I don't expect any hard sci-fi or interesting event-based story arcs so this can only be a disappointment.
Mark my words and when it comes out I hope I was totally wrong.

I agree that to tell that story right, you'd need quite a few full length movies. Unfortunately the majority doesn't know what Mass Effect is, it's not as bankable as say Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings kind of brand, so I am not sure the studios will want to commit to a set of movies from the start, especially considering that this kind of sci-fi setting will require a sizable budget. They might try to stuff everything they can in one movie and be done with it.

It's quite early to tell what it will be about though, they might just take a few concepts from the ME universe and create a different kind of story altogether, without staying anywhere close to the game itself. BioWare is involved though, so I guess they'll stay close enough Smile

yes but audiences DO, as we WELL know, love fx spectacle films. if they can wrap up the story and characters inside an attractive action packed fx film (which i think it really needs to be anyway...) then theres your audience right there.

and toss in some 3d and omfg WINNARRR!!11

This is actually one of the few games that can be properly translated to teh big screen. Hopefully Bioware will have a say in it so it won't be some generic Hollywood crap.

Dragon Age is a good game but it's really generic. It would result to nothing more than a standard fantasy movie. Mass Effect on the other hand could be an excellent scifi movie.

I doubt EA will just sell the rights and let it go. They want to go into the movie bussiness and they will have big demands imo. While I don't like EA that much, I don't think they'll let one of their strongest IP's get butchered.

transformers... twilight... spiderman... they all made HUGE bank.... but they were all pretty mother fucking butchered... granted i dont know how twilight turned out or how it compared to the books or what the books were like, but shut up, im trying to make a point here.. Very Happy

theres a difference between quality/integrity, and what 'sells'....

and THAT is what should worry you most... especially when i bring up those earlier movie titles... mainly our all time fav transformers.

As far as I know, it's the first time EA's property is going to be a movie, so they might easily just want to cash in on it, making this a mainstreamed movie that sells, without any regard for possible long lasting franchise. Hopefully they'll play it smart.

But then there's a problem of making a worthy movie, but it won't sell, which is no better a result in the long run.

This Mark Protosevich that is signed for the screenplay is a hack, why the fuck couldn't they at least announce Drew Karpyshyn as co writer or script consultant. I only want to see live action and not some total CGI crapfeast, and also it would be better as a series

I didn't even know there was a "serious" ME movie in the works..oh well; my expectations are quite low, but if they manage to keep the hollywoodian pew pew away from the movie maybe there's a concrete chance to have something interesting.
