I love it but sometimes it doesn't playback the things in the correct way (for example no sound on some movies, or distorted colors on some quicktime files C4D generates).
How should I set it up correctly for best quality and which is the newest, stable version?

Well latest version is 3.0.0.1438:
http://cdn.pandora.tv/KMP/Download/kmp.exe
That version comes with hardware acceleration support for H264 content.
The distorted colors I think come from bad resolution. It can happen to XVID files as well.
For sound, I use AC3Filter because it has native 32bit float decoders, which provide much higher and undistorted quality over 16bit integer decoder that KMP (and other libavcodec-based players) provides.

for me best player atm is PotPlayer, i really couldn't care about hw acc as it only using 30% for 720-1080p rips of a intel dual core 2.7ghz
picture quality is superior to mpc or kmp with shaders 5x5 on, kmp is one unstable old crap which i stopped using ages ago

Unstable? Has never crashed on me. Used to have a bug on EVR renderer, but has been fixed.
And how is picture "superior" exactly if they all use the same decoders and renderers? I just love the noobs going "tbh vlc lux best mpchc sux ballz" when they are using the same decoders. PotPlayer is exactly the same as KMP, with more updates, but English translation is still not perfect - that's why I haven't moved to that.
I use VMR9 at any rate because it's most true to the source without any stupid filters that make it look ... "superior".

once you had a tip to get the 1436 and then copying some beta files over it. No need for that with 1438?

Nope, now it's an installer (but this is still considered beta).
Well, site is too slow, so maybe that's why link is screwed for now. I took it from here:
http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17273
This is the beta section of the site, so you need to register there (don't bother now, it's too slow - must be having ISP issues).

hey i prefer sharper picture no matter how it's delivered, i only prefer natural boobs irl
it's like why not play game without aa and af, it is natural isn't it?! sorry leo but sometimes u just full of it
i have no problems with translation, playback and pause is all i need to understand
and yeah i had stability issues with kmp, like freezing during playback or not recovering from pause, sound on but black screen, besides in vmr9 everything is fugly for me, dunno how u stand it, yeah not everyone is as geeky and anal as u and prefer different stuff, that's what makes us umanz

Could be that I watch almost everything in 720p and 1080p so I don't need retarded high-pass filters to fake details.

Then you must have some bug in the drivers. VMR9 has no "pixelfests" or any pixelization at all. You can set the resizing method to Bicubic -1.0 to have sharper image (you can do this for EVR as well). EVR just applies sharpening and processing which removes details. If anything, use the Haali renderer, which also applies sharpening, but looks a lot better than EVR. EVR also applies the driver video enhancements (like edge enhancement, noise reduction and skin color blabla) so if you haven't disabled these, now is the time to do it.

I'll try the new KMP, atm I'm using mpchc. Only there is the picture clear, not pixelated...
