Great series of games and the expansions and patches add a lot to the experience that might otherwise go unnoticed at a glance so make sure you take a good look.

Bought and paid for. I don't know why I love this damned game so much. It's just so incredibly fucking addicting for some unknown reason (I don't usually enjoy turn based strategy). Looking forward to all those new features...

I knew there was a reason I had you on my ignore list in the past The game is great, the new Impulse beta doesn't let you queue up downloads though so that's a bit no-no.

Same, bought it directly when the beta came out..
The best turn based strategy game on PC imo, i've tried several (including the latest Civ which i also bought) but none has hooked me like GalCiv2..

Never tried it, worth getting i assume, is just the basic vanilla version the best way to start or should i get any patches/expansions and if so, which?

Probably cheaper just buying the whole package for Twilight of the Arnor - and once you have TA I'm not sure why you'd want to play the other two unless you were interested in the story mode (which I'm not) and following its narrative.
It might take a while to 'get into', understand its nuances and so on, but don't give up. I faintly remember thinking it was a bit shit at first but persevered. You won't believe how many late nights to early mornings have been lost playing it. It's so addictive and fun once you've gotten past the barrier of what to build, why to build and so on (I think it's the case for all Stardock games actually, they have a learning curve of 'HUH?' where the fun isn't necessarily immediately apparent).

Gotten through two games now with normal adversaries and small galaxies, killed em all in the first game, science victory in the second. Just started my third game with a gigantic map and DAMN those are big Also trying the step above normal on the adversaries, will be interesting.
Still kind of at a loss with what to build, where to position space stations etc, but i have to say, very very sweet game.

i want this expansion so bad, but i'm a bit concerned that if it's a download only game then waht happends if your hdd geos tit's up. can you re-download it FOC or is it gameover.
also those of you that have used the digital download service , how big was the overall download for the bundle and what would happen in the event if your download became corrupt.

You can download the game as many times as you want.

I'm not sure but I think the overall size is not big, about 2GB in total if my directory structure tells me the truth (and I believe it does). The digital download service will be able to deal with corruption, it's a download manager.

Is the game only downloadable ? No box version ? That would explain the lack of scene release.
