Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Venues include both rings and cages. FSM says EA's on the fence about whether restarts will be included for ring fights. (It "might make for jarring gameplay," the article says.)
The game includes Pride-style rules in addition to standard Unified Rules.
The game includes the ability to fight southpaw- or orthodox, execute foot stomps and fight on the cage, with deep clinchwork and countering.
Mauro Ranallo and Frank Shamrock will be providing commentary.[6]
Arenas including HP Pavilion at San Jose, Scottrade Center, BankAtlantic Center, Sears Centre, Cowboys Stadium,[7] Saitama Super Arena, Yokohama Arena and Osaka-jo Hall
Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko will be on the US cover. Hidehiko Yoshida and Fedor Emelianenko will be on the Japanese cover.[8]
The game will also feature 'Live Broadcasts' that can be viewed from PC or consoles. The player will be able to upload hype videos, which will help to increase popularity. Real life prizes will be given out to a certain level.
The UFC games have always been "meh" but its not like we`ve ever had any other option in MMA games (dont bring up old psx titles). To me EA MMA makes UFC 2010 look like shit, smarter gameplay, better grapichs by faaaar, and its looking like this one actually has working online.

I was not impressed by the preview videos. Reaction to punches and such seemed really stiff, and I'm not sure about controls.
Yes, yes I'm back.

Check out the demo at gamespot`s on the spot. Its a new bulid, the older bulids had alot of sliding and impact problems. They`ve been fixing things fast.
Striking is just the same as FN, wich works just fine. The grappling is not the most advanced ever, but from what i`ve seen its alot better than the clusterfuck that is "shining" in UFC.

UFC = Organisation that compete in MMA
MMA = Mixed Martial Art, with other words the general term of what the fighters in UFC and all other organisations like Strikeforce train.

I think this is gonna be EA MMA`s biggest problem.
Only MMA sport`s fans know whats going on and differences, but its pretty simple when it comes to games. THQ have never made a good fighring game, EA SPORTS knows just a tad more when it comes to sports games. They seem to have a good grasp on what the sport is about, and signed some of the best fighters that have been around for a while.
Love that they have the different rulesets, like japanese and vale tudo rules where you kan knee to the head of a grounded opponent and soccerkick/headstomp:)
Sure, EA MMA probably wont sell in bunches, but for us fans im sure it will be awsome. The sport is growing like hell tough, only thing left is to make people realize that MMA has been around alot longer than the UFC, and that the UFC is generally trying to make money of people that just want to se some dudes banging, and boo when it goes to the ground because its "gay".
Myself being a huge fan of the sport can`t wait for this, i also train in MMA myself so that gives a deeper understanding.

It might be the problem for this game. I do forsee that EA and UFC will make a deal in the future.
UFC 2010 I read is one of the most returned games last year. It had some good improvement over 09, but once you played it a bit you start to see the big flaws in their game. It's like Yuke had the visions, but in the end they couldn't really pull it off. The last patch that were supposed to fix things only made the game worse, it was the same with 09. Also the same problems with online from 09 carried on to 2010.
If now EA MMA turns out to be a great game, and the only thing it misses are the UFC logo. I do think (no matter how much shit Dana White talked about EA) we'll see UFC ditch THQ and Yuke, and we'll see a EA-game with the UFC logon in the future.

I hope the game mechanics are good. It have the contents, it just need to do the control right. EA MMA doesn't need the UFC logo or its fighters. EA MMA have a really good create a fighter, so you'll be able to replicate UFC's fighters.
If you hate it, ignore it.

I hope you're right. But there are so many causual MMA (UFC-fans) out there today. You hear how people say they "train UFC". If the game won't have Brock Lesnar on the frontpage they won't even look at it. Luckly EA MMA have Randy that those fans can recon.
I am nearly sure that EA's game will have better game mechanics, also the online support will superior and we already know that the content will be huge. Mainly because they do not have to restrict themself inside UFC's bounderies.
I want this game to succeed on so many levels. But most important, as competition to Yuke, the only way someone will progress will be with competition. As with FIFA, it became rather stale and suddenly PES just came in and showed a MUCH better soccer-game. This made EA improve their franchise...

UFC is trying to make money, and SF, DREAM, etc. aren't? The difference is that the business model that the UFC is using is more profitable, and it attracts a lot more attention. The UFC has single handedly made MMA a sport that no longer is spoken of as a niche, it's now a part of the news on ESPN, and in ie. Canada MMA is now approaching hockey in popularity. Most fighters in the UFC wished to be in the UFC not just because a lot of talent is in the UFC, but because it is most widely recognized and worldwide (and easily has the most viewers).
As for what "people" look for when they watch MMA, they enjoy all the aspects of the game or they would stick to boxing. I think your perspective is skewed and nonsensical, what people hate is bad groundwork or lack of fighter instinct... they hate fights where two fighters won't finish fights regardless of if it's standing up or on the ground. Personally I think there are a lot of fighters both in the UFC and in MMA in general that aren't hungry enough, that don't commit to the sport. And that is the real difference, and why the audience is booing or not.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Sure they did.
MMA is Mixed martial arts. Fighters train in various types of fighting styles, like Boxing, Judo, Hapkido, Jui Jitsu, etc. (Sorry I know my spelling sucks) Though usually they focus on two or three. You have your standing game wich you throw kicks or punches, and you have the ground game where you try to pin or submit your opponent.
UFC is Ultimate Fighting Championship. It's a 'ruleset' for MMA. Arguably the most popular, it's the one you see in PPV and on Spike tv. There are others, like Pride and umm Red Dragon or whatever it is in Japan. Alot of fighters in the lesser known circuits, like Pride, end up trying out and getting spots in UFC fights.
EA has the better game. By calling it MMA they have access to nearly ALL forms of MMA circuits, and when the game becomes popular I don't doubt they'll get the contract to add UFC to it.
i can has computar?!

UFC isnt a ruleset its a promotion, the rules in UFC are set by the athletic commisions in the US and encompass any promotion operating there they generally follow the unified MMA ruleset although some commisions can ommit things like elbows on the ground etc generally its the same. Pride is now defunct, in its hey day many considered it to have the better calibur of fighter, and in the hardcore MMA community was never seen as a minor league promotion to the UFC, coincidently Pride was bought out by Zuffa the parent company of the UFC

Have you played the demo? The best game? Id rather eat my own scrotum than play that pile of junk again. UFC 2010 is about 3 trillion times better and thats saying something as UFC is flawed and online is basically impossible to play, although EA MMA plays about the same as UFC online, So slow and robotic, its shocking, then playing a mini game for subs, its easily the worst game Ive played on the next gen consoles. I reckon if they work on FIFA standards, by about EA MMA 2023 they may have a game that rivals UFC Undisputed
Dont get me wrong, MMA is my passion, and Im not saying UFC undisputed is a great game, Its just miles and miles ahead of this piece of crap

I know everyone wants to, but dont compare it to UFC2010. The one has one the other lacks and yadayada, ea mma is very different, and altough it looks like mma nerdfest with the rulesets and all that, its a game to sell mma to the public. Its simple, and easy. Even a little automatic. Its more fun to play, but its not really a better game.

How can u not compare the two? Its like asking you not to compare fifa and pes, or gran turismo and Forza.
EA MMA is a shockingly made, pile of junk, created on the fight night engine. The punch mechanics are slow and lazy, the collision detection is piss poor, the takedowns are too easy, the ground game is a joke. The good about only thing thats good about this game is the graphics as the fight starts. The fighters barely look like their real life counterparts, Its so bad its funny

First when I played the demo I thought, wtf is this pile of crap? The AI constantly went for takedowns and I couldn't defend shit. I did only play Miller Vs. Shields and Ubereem Vs. Lasley, thing is that both Shields and Lasley would do the same thing in reality, take you down over and over again if you can't defend. So I tried play Miller Vs. Miller and then the AI wanted to stand a little more, game became alot more fun. The controls took some time to get used too, but once I did I actually enjoyed the game.
Got a friend over and we tried to play against eachother. Here the game really became a different. After a few matches I did not only like it, I started to love it. Also I started to get the hang of defending takedowns, now I can handle the AI. Sure they do take me down everyonce in a while. But once you stuffed a few they will change strategy and try to stand more. But now I find the takedown defense easier then on UFC2010.
The game seem to have a very basic mechanic for the groundgame. But it's really more paper-rock-scissors when you play against a friend. You only have defend guard, pass guard and sub. But to maintain stamina (in case someone will try a sub) you start to be careful with how use the pass guard button, likewise with defend one. Also you can decide which way you pass with moving the analog-stick, so you constantly trying to figure out what your opponent is trying to do. Mix that up with defending for strikes. I really found I like this better than the half-cricle thing UFC uses. Also we had another friend here that never played the UFC-game and he got into this rather quick too. This compared to when I had to really explain the mechanics in the UFC-game for another friend just to have someone to play with.
Stand-up is about the same as Fight Night, and I never been very good at that game. Not sure if I shall get used to the analog-punching or if I should go with the classic-controls? Easier to just have two punch buttons and two kick, insteed of the kick-modifer. But I guess it's how you're used to things?
Anyhow, what I wanted to say is that the demo at least grew on me after a few hours. I was really close to cancel my preorder, but now I am positive I will keep it. Sure the game has it flaws, but I really like the simplicity, still there is some deepth too
