Terra Nova is an American sci-fi drama television series that will air on Fox in 2011 as a fall series.
Quote:
The show is set in the year 2149 when all life on the planet Earth is being threatened with extinction. Scientists have opened a door allowing people to travel back to prehistoric times. The Shannon family (father Jim, his wife Elisabeth, and their children Josh and Maddy) join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to Terra Nova, the first human colony on the other side of the temporal doorway. However, they did not realize that they placed it in the middle of a group of carnivores.
Alex Graves has signed on to direct the pilot. Brannon Braga will serve as showrunner. The series is to be filmed in south-east Queensland, Australia, with work staring in October. Jason O'Mara will star as Jim Shannon.
In August 2010, it was reported that the show will debut in a special TV event in May 2011 and will then continue in the fall schedule of the 2011/2012 primetime television season
2149? they better have some damn kickass weapons then to fry dinos with
surely there'll be some disaster that only a small group gets through with limited supplies and they have to macguyver themselves to the caveman level with a few gizmos from the future
sounds more like another stargate spinoff
or lost
or robinson's requiem(game) which could be cool aswell
i really hope they keep the timetravel going beyond just the pilot episode
i mean.. the moment they close "the temporal doorway", the future is demolished
it's kind of retarded to 'preserve' human civilisation by action which destroys all of human history

Yes yes. The grandfather paradox. It's a TV show for fucks sake.

Unless... the people that they send back in time are actually the progenitors of the modern human race.
Yey.. another show/flick about time travel. Lovely.. Love when sci-fi shows/flicks play with Time Travel as if its some sort of "bodily function" where we go as we please. In reality, things would be complete different: classic example was that Outer Limits episode where soldiers from the future go back in time to a Prehistoric period, soldiers are told NOT to walk off the designated path but one does and accidentally kills an insect/butterfly. When they return to their supposed time period.. Whooaa.. WTF? Whats with all these Nazi symbols... HILTER WON THE WAR!?!?!? AGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Thats more like it.. smallest changes furthest in the past lead to major changes down the road in the timeline.
I always laugh when Star Trek plays with time like its disposable. So sad... YOU NEVER TAKE TIME TRAVEL LIGHTLY!!! Great way to pollute/contaminate the universe is keep going back in time and messing with things even small. Hell.. even just being somewhere in a time period could be absolutely fatal to the future -- you could inadvertently introduce a "super bug" off your skin or self that the past could not handle.
Yeah lovely.. lets go back couple of million years to try to save the future.. oh the paradox!

You say this show portray time traveling as easy, yet the show is about time traveling gone wrong.

Except any form of time travel to the past is EXTREMELY dangerous. Going back to the periods of the dinosaur then expecting to have an untouched future when you return = not gonna happen. Wayy too many variables being introduced when spanning huge gulfs of time. If it was recent history, thats not as bad unless you plan to stop JFK from being assassinated then your future is totally voided.
I just think Time Travel is tossed around waayyy to much in sci-fi as if its no big deal. The Outer Limits example really is more representative of the consequences the further back we go.

I don't know. I will probably check it out in the beginning just because of the premise for the show. However I agree on the retardness of sending humans 85 millions years back in time, possibly destroying the foundation for human existence in the first place. Could be other theories for explaining the premises on reasonable grounds though, we will see.

"Fox" --- don't let your interest pique you on this guys, it's not worth watching because you know exactly what will happen; You'll fall in love with it only to have Fox cancel the show halfway through the first season.

I seriously do not know why people want their series to air with Fox.. Ends in disaster almost every fucking time.
