Germany have (afaik) the silliest and worst censorship laws in Europe. While other countries have gone softer, Germany just went total-censorship without regards to age. Go figure.

Sounds fucking stupid to me, and they dont sell the "normal" version in stores either?
If they think this is the way to go then so be it, but they should shut their fucking mouths when they start loosing money because of it.
A grown up person should be able to buy what the fuck he wants, and as far as i know its not a childs game so why the fuck censor it......

Slight problem with that is ebay germany is not allowed to sell stuff with is rated 18+ because, once again, there is no legally accepted way to verify the buyer's age.
Did somebody ask why I buy my games (when I even buy retail games) in Austria? Found a nice shop there

No offence, but from what ive just head, germany fucking SUCKS!!!
Why arnt they just as strict with their pron movies? I dont think seeing another person taking a dump on the other is doing anything better seeing a person shoot a guy in a game, the rest of the word can handle it so why cant they?

Porn is only available for people 18+ so that's actually not a problem. Plus the stores that sell porn etc. you gotta be 18+ to be allowed to enter them as well.
With video games and movies it's different. There are stores that sell the uncut versions because they can just check your id and be done with it.
And if I wanted to buy an uncut retail game there are ways to do that as well.
Either the page bushwacka posted or like I said I found a decent store in Austria who specialises in import games.
It's just online distribution and online shops where you get fucked over like that in Germany.
Simply because they have no way to verify your age at all.
And that's what I'm pissed about.

I've always wondered about this, so perhaps you can enlighten me a bit more on the subject. My thinking went like this (please correct me if I'm wrong)....
The German government censors games containing violence, I presumed, due to wanting to get away from the stigma of being seen as violent people (Nazi Germany). They're so strict, and trying so hard however, that all it does is make them seem more oppressive (and thus closer to the Nazi Germany stereotype). Can't any of those politicians see that? Or am I the only one that thinks that way? 
Australia and New Zealand also have this game censorship going on though don't they? Not sure where the fuck they get their reasoning from...

I'm in Aus and I bought the uncensored version of l4d2 off steam. You go to the UK steam store in your regular html browser of choice and do all the normal things to buy it, make sure it says pounds not dollars ect, set all your address details to your Aus stuff but make sure the country box says United Kindgom. Pay pounds, receive uncensored game. Dunno if this works for every game on steam but it's probably worth a shot if your epically pissed off.
The aus censorship thing is because we don't have an R18+ rating for games like we do movies and to change this it requires consent of every state attorney general, which we have except the South Australian state attorney general who is a 60 year old religious prick that refuses to step into the 21st century. So the second he loses his job, we will be joining the rest of the world in censorship laws.

nah that's not it. It's just some sort of overdramatized need to protect children.
Just read up on it a wee bit and it appears that the original version of the law (which was called something completely different and actually only spoke about movies) is from 1920 so way before the Nazis had any sort of power.
I don't think it's a dumb idea to not let children see or play violent games / movies. I'm okay with that but don't make it so freaking hard for people who are legally allowed to get those movies /games is all I'm saying.

if person is violent by nature he will do stupid stuff no matter what, enforcing something is always a bad idea coz it will only maximize the interest
my kid for example saw his cousin playing css and he wanted to try as well, i refuse to allow him that and he still persisting, he is only 7

But that's the catch. German lawmakers thought it was wise to implement this sort of age based censorship but didn't think about a useful verfication method for people of age.
I know some places ask you to send in a copy of your ID or some other (rather complicated) age verification method but that's hardly feasible with who knows how many german Steam users, right?
Like I said, I've fucking had it. You wanna know why I pirate games? That's fucking why.

There's always something to blame. (Makes me wonder what are we gonna blame when our kids/grandkids go apeshit?)
I just wished there was some way to circumvent this shit when dealing with steam but there isn't :/
