|
 |
I'm not doing the GOTY stuff this year (for reasons disclosed here: http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=101139 ), but I thought it would be still nice to know what all your individual's top 10 lists would be. There's a user voting thing on Giant Bomb and it made me think about my top 10 list and what I'm pretty happy with what I came up with.
It'd be great if you came up with your individual comments about the game, but obviously it's not necessary.
1. Wasteland 2- while the 2nd part of the game was pretty broken upon launch, W2 is still the most engrossing experience this year. The sheer amount of quests (upon some I haven't even stumbled upon, even though I'm a completionist and searched through every area), choices- that matter!, consequences of your actions- whether you took too long to finish a quest or maybe you thought you were doing the right thing, but in the end you didn't- it is simply the best game of the year for me, might be the best RPG I've played since Baldur's Gate 2.
2. Divinity: Original Sin- it really is an insanely close second- while the narrative doesn't come close to that of W2, the game is still extremely fun, and as a magic user Divinity delivers one of the best magic systems to date with spell combos and fantastic particle effects. If W2 is not up your alley, then Divinity should be.
3. Assassin's Creed Unity- tons of people have problems- I'm not denying that. The game was broken at launch for massive amounts of people, and is still broken to this day for some- however thankfully I didn't experience any problems. Unity is a come-back to the roots of the AC franchise, and while the story ends on a very shitty note, it is currently my favorite Assassin's Creed game- with revised stealth, combat and the new parkour system Unity delivers what's best in AC games.
4. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes- I am very surprised at how much I enjoyed a short look at the upcoming Phantom Pain, but as a stealth game fanatic you simply cannot miss this. The tone seems a lot more serious than previous MGS titles, and while I'd love to relive the madness that is MGS2 ending on my PC, instead of the HD edition on 360/PS3, this is a fantastic stealth game with massive amount of options and routes you can take.
5. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor- I really loved the game. Totally a sleeping hit of 2014, akin to Sleeping Dogs. If you're a fan of Assassin's Creed, you'll love SoM, and even if you're not- the Nemesis system brings just enough to the table for the game to be really fun.
6. Far Cry 4- while I still haven't finished it, I'm having great fun with it, whether I'm sneaking around outposts or chasing down rhinos on my elephant.
7. Blackwell Ephiphany- a masterful end to the Blackwell saga, and a lengthy one at that- at least twice as long as the previous game. Clever puzzles and a great story make this the best adventure game of the year.
8. Watch Dogs- I'd rate the game 8.5. It's the most MP fun I had this year. The MP shits all over the MP in Dark Souls 2. Nothing groundbreaking, but a great game nevertheless, I hope things improve with the yet-unannounced-but-totally-coming sequel.
9. Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments- I liked it a lot more than Testament. The deduction system is pretty great, I hope they improve upon it in the sequel. I got all my cases right on my first try though, so there's not much replayability for me.
10. South Park: The Stick of Truth- while the mechanics were a little undercooked, the overall game worked great. The attention to detail and the similarities to the show were mindblowing, but the game started easy and only got easier, even on the hardest difficulty.
I'm quite sure Dragon Age: Inquisition could make it on the list (probably at the last place), but I think it's a bit premature to say it's one of my favorite games of the year when I'm not even halfway through the story, and the combat system is abysmal.

Due to my shit system (up until this month, now it's a slightly-less-shit-system) I haven't played a single 2014 game so... no list for me.
Unless Metro Redux counts? Those two were pretty good.

It's... Actually too little for a list. I didn't like most of the games I played this year.
1- Alien: Isolation
2- Divinity: Original Sin
3- Dragon Age: Inquisition
4- Wasteland 2
5- Ground Zeroes(Gameplay-wise it is awesome)
And the most surprising one was the Dragon Age. I'm still playing it, I just couldn't drop it. Sure, as an RPG it cannot catch Divinity or Wasteland, but it has pretty awesome maps and fun combat. It has lots of issues, but you know, I like it somehow.

My "list" can't fit 10 titles. Quality comes in short measures nowadays.
Best RPG / Best Game of the Year: Divinity: Original Sin
Best Art Direction / Art Design: Assassin's Creed Unity
Best First Person Game: Metro 2033 Redux
Best game based on a movie: Alien Isolation
Best Soundtrack: Valiant Hearts
Best Graphics, Best Atmosphere, Best Story-telling: The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
Most pleasant surprise: METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES
... and...
Biggest Disappointment: Dark Souls II

1. Divinity: Original Sin
2. Shadowrun: Dragonfall
3. Alien: Isolation
4. Dragon Age: Inqusition
5. Wasteland 2 (would've been first or second, but it was way too broken and the combat felt very, very boring and simplistic - especially in contrast to D:OS. And there was a lot of it, so I can't overlook that)
6. Risen 3
7. Archeage (ultimately I got bored, but I put a little time into it and enjoyed the idea behind it)
And, sadly, that's about it. Still have FC4 and Evil Within to play, but I probably couldn't make a full 10 list anyway.

None at all. All games this year have been utter disappointments, and I can only hope 2015 is better.
If Batman is a fail, I may end up selling my PC and start knitting instead

I didn't play many games because for the better part of the year I couldn't afford/wasn't motivated enough to replace my busted GPU etc..
These were all good games:
Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes
Metro 2033: Redux
Alien: Isolation
The Evil Within
Game of the year: Resident Evil 4 UHD of course.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Binding of isaac rebirth, it is the only game i have playd over 100h this year allready.
Honorable mention: Wildstar first month. That game had best combat of all the mmo-s i have touched. Its shame that carbine fucked up the game so hard.
