Yeah I read that people are having issues with MMS. I think I'll wait for a while to see if a fixed version comes out.

It seems that the jailbreak only works up to 4.0, I'm on 3.1.2 and the latest is 4.0.1. How do you go from 3.1.2 to 4.0?
Anyone know?
EDIT: Nevermind, it works up to 4.0.1 I misread it.
One more question though, if I update to 4.1 will I lose all of my current apps?

OK, well I went ahead anyway and updated to 4.0.1. To my surprise, my apps are all still there and working fine. To my even greater surprise...i no longer get a signal over 2 bars. FFS!
Also, jailbreakme.com is having problems.

Didn't Apple recently mention that they changed the signal display to a more accurate interpretation in their latest firmware?

I don't know. Did they? All I know is that since I typed that last message I've lost the signal completely a few times which has never happened before. I'm restoring it now to see if it helps.

It took absolutely ages for me to get the jailbreak to work, I guess due to server load but it's finally up and running.

Sorry, but I have a few noob questions:
1. Is there anything important you need to do after jailbreaking? Like change the root password or so?
2. Installing cracked apps is as easy as just dragging the .ipa file into itunes?
3. Is there a risk to my itunes account when using cracked apps?

1) YES! The cydia version of terminal no longer works for ios4, but there is an unofficial beta build or something out there that you can install another way, but the simplest way is to just install openssh via cydia, and ssh into your phone.
Use the 'passwd' command to change your password for both mobile, and then switch user to root and 'passwd' again to change that.
2) First you must install the installous repo, cydia.hackulo.us, and install install0us which will install appsync with it, then you can add .ipa files to itunes and sync there to install cracked apps.
You can also just browse install0us from within your device and install from there!
3) I've never heard of anything like this so far... but the general rule of thumb is there is probably always some risk. It is fairly easy for apps to know you are using a cracked app by some sort of ID on your phone. Most people don't bother but there are apps to change this id.
But again, I've never heard of anyone have anything happen to them for the use of cracked apps.
