Info:
The Strause brothers (Colin Strause and Greg Strause: their company Hydraulx has provided visual effects for Avatar, Iron Man 2, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and 300) have been working on Skyline, an upcoming sci-fi movie about a strange alien invasion. The film is starring Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson, and Brittany Daniel. the release date is set for November 12, 2010.
Plot:
"After a late night party, a group of friends are awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an otherwordly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now our band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them."

AVP:R was simply TERRIBLE

It may be good, but it sounds pretty generic, it may well look visually great but time will tell of story etc..

im just not sure if its because people have all become to cynical these days when it comes to any form of entertainment, or if its because theyve unrealistically hyped ds9 to godlike levels and are simply unwilling to acknowledge any other films because in their mind it might 'cheapen' their holy grail of movies...
dont get me wrong, i have next to zero interest in this film at the moment... its just that i think its a pity that people write things off so easily when all they have is a single image (which strangely enough, to me, looks pretty nicely framed and set-up, making the hate doubly confusing)

never thought of them as terrible directors , (Strause bros) , they have a great visual eye and work well with cgi
sure , they had some really shitty material in AVPR , and the editing was extremly bad , but visually it wasnt bad , so if they have full control over the project , it might be really good
just check out they're commerical work

one of my main beefs with avpr was the lighting... thing was just way too dark.
you CAN have a dark atmosphere and aesthetic WITHOUT resorting to just turning off all the lights, and it just astonished me that fx people directing a film wouldnt pick up on just how shoddy the lighting made everything look.
and yeah of course the acting, dialog, script n shit definately didnt help... did like that annoying chick getting a giant krull style spinny thing through her chest, though. total highlight of the film for me.

To be honest I like Sci-Fi movies, and will watch most of them, so I am looking forward to this, just because of what it is.
I just hope it has a decent story to go with what will undoubtedly be some fantastic special effects work (safe bet going with the previous stuff I feel) and not be another film driven by some fantastic effects, but lacking in plots.

Hi Chiv.
I like District 9. I liked it a lot. I really liked the pacing the interaction of CGI and actual footage. I liked the story. In fact a lot of people liked it very much.
I did not like AVP:R. I actually thought it was terrible.
Therefor, I directed my comment(and very lightheartedly) towards the rumour that it was a District 9 killer. Clearly, I disagree but that doesn't mean the movie will suck. I just don't think it will be as good or come close to being as good as District 9.
So, because I don't think that a movie will be as good as D9 I am hyping it to godlike levels? ...come on..Some times I wish that people would just read what was written.

Hey, I'm not calling it the worst movie ever. I haven't seen it, yet. But Michael Bay was a commercial powerhouse before he made movies and look what he's churning out..being a good commercial director is barely more than a hint of they know what should be on camera or not..and I can't even say that for Michael Bay. And the plot doesn't even sound that original to me

my comment was pretty general - not aimed at any one person. perhaps you dont think d9 is the greatest film ever, but a lot of people do and consider it their benchmark for sci fi movies, which is pretty clear given how often its mentioned as a comparison, even here in the hump.

I don't think that is clear, at all.

if people constantly bring up a single film as a mark of comparison as to what constitutes a GOOD film in that genre then yes, its pretty clear that they consider that title as their shining example of the best of its kind.
if you cant follow that, then thats your failing not mine.

Nice screen shot in first post.. interesting plot.. looking quite forward. Those dark ethereal objects in the sky look like alien hover-stargates designed to capture people and send them ????. Should be interesting. Need more original risk-taking sci-fi.
