shit like this really numbs my mind

so i was out with some friends some time ago and well , most or everyone light up a ciggy , i don't smoke , haven't smoked since my early teens and i'm amazed that some idiots who "don't smoke" , actually light up cause the rest were doing it.

i think it really take a special kind of idiot to be such a fucking puppet , doing stuff cause other people do it.. what the fuck happend to independent thought ?

this trying to fit in bullshit i guess would apply for 16 yr old idiot but not some 20 something guy or girl , i mean , grow a fucking brain idiot.

im a social smoker, but "social" generally just means "drunk".

if you really think they are just trying to fit in, you need to get out of that mindset. i socially smoke because i cant just light up a spliff anywhere, but i dont usually smoke cigarettes.

Yep I have a friend who started smoking because of everyone else, he also thinks what his other friends he hangs out think (stupid retarded kinda thinking involving no brain activity and logical reasoning). I said to him: why don't you think for yourself? If they would jump off a bridge into a river, would you jump too just because they did? Rolling Eyes

I don't get these kind of ppl... must have sth to do with a low self respect and the ability to think...

How the fuck can stress relief be the reason to start smoking, everyone starts smoking because others are doing it. Its one big brainless group of sheep. You dont know smoking reliefs stress or whatever when you start. You only find that out afterwards.

The whole phenomenon of smoking is related to social acceptance and peer pressure. I doubt that many people who start smoking go to the store to buy their first pack of cigs. Even less likely is the scenario of someone sufferring from stress and thinking, 'you know what, I think I'll start smoking and then everything will be better'. Razz Actually, the social smokers are the lucky ones because they can have the odd cigarette and not get addicted.

I started smoking out of my own damn will, used to steal marlboro lights from my gramps and go smoke them outside.

Now I'm trying like crazy to stop, down to only 3 - 4 a day

None of the smokers I know liked their first cigarette. Everyone hated it at first but kept doing it because 'it's cool' and 'everyone else is doing it and they are fine'.

so what your are saying is that it's better to be a sucker/mindless sheep/tool than a smoker
and this addiction thing is bullshit , if your REALLY want to quit , you'll fucking do it , it all depends on the individual and determination

you either do something or you don't
if your dumb ass is a social smoker then it's fucking pointless and stupid to say "i don't smoke" cause it's a god damn lie

this social acceptence bullshit is fucking stupid ,"if everyone wears red , then i should do it too to fit in" , for me , its on the same level as "if everyone gutted they're parents then i should too cause i want to be accepted"

this stress releaving crap it's more of an placebo effect since you get the idea that smoking calms your nerves yada yada yada

Where did I say all that about addiction being bullshit or 'individual determination'? You seem to be aware of the concept of punctuation but you're doing it wrong. Very Happy

All I said (in that sentence) is that some people can have the occassional cigarette but not become regular/chain smokers. But for most people that is precisely how it starts. One moment you're having your first cigarette to 'fit in' and 10 years down the line you're one of the millions trying to quit.

Now that we've cleared that up. And about the addiction, a lot of smokers and a large number of scientific studies would disagree with you about your opinion on addiction but what do they know, right? Very Happy

You'd be surprised at the things people do to fit in and smoking is just one of the more obvious. We all, in some manner, do things to not stand out in a crowd. No, nothing as stupid as jumping into a well but strange things all the same. Fashion fads wouldn't exist if a large number of people didn't decide to copy each other.

Again, I have to disagree. Smoking does calm people down but that stress is actually a result of the person not having smoked for x number of minutes/hours. So it's a chicken and egg thing. They wouldn't be stressed out if they weren't smokers in the first place. But given the fact that they ARE smokers, it does help.

I don't like the taste of alcohol, so I don't really care if other people are drinking.
