Hey everyone,

I've been on a final fantasy kick as of late and playing through FF7, realized there are key "checkpoints" in the game that I dread and wait to get past because of the difficulty. I'd have to say for me the hardest area is Nibelheim and the Materia Keeper in the Mountain (The guy you learn Trine from)... For some reason i'm never prepared, the extra boss to get vincent in the vault always gives me a terrible time and the Trine guy steamrolls me the first time I fight him usually. I think this just may be where the game kicks up the difficulty really quick.

Lemme know what yours are (No Ruby/Emerald weapon please, we know they are hard Smile )

No contest; The North Crater. Especially once you're descending deeper into it... each platform drops you into a battle with Iron Giants, sometimes 2 at a time, and they can really kick the shit out of you if you're not careful. I also second Nibelheim and the Materia Keeper, that dude was epic when I first encountered him. Another two areas would be Cosmo Canyon boss (Gi Nattak) WITHOUT using the uber-lame "Phoenix Down instakill" -- and finally Temple of the Ancients and the Demon Gate.

Lastly, the Gelnika. The sunken plane in the ocean, which was filled with severely NASTY enemies. Those weren't even bosses, just SinRa experiments, and they could kick seven shades of shit outta you.

..... now I want to replay FFVII again Very Happy

Lol definitely should. I've never had the balls to fight Gi Nattak without phoenix down..he's skeery. North Crater never seemed too hard for me because I never fought anything except magic pots until after I'm level 99 , but i'm sure it's fairly ridiculous on level.

Dunno whether it's just me, or whether FFVII was slightly "simplified" for the new console crowd, but I found some of the bosses in FFVI to be muuuuuuuuuuuuuch harder than FFVII. Obviously not including the Weapons (though the game code exists in FFVI for unused bosses, like Czar Dragon, which absolutely wipes the floor with Emerald and Ruby) but definitely the likes of Chadarnook, 8 Legendary Dragons, Magi Master, Atma Weapon and WrexSoul (the FFVI prequel to FFVII's Gi Nattak)

FFVIII and FFIX fixed that though, some of the bosses in those two were insane. Awesome, but insane, and yes I'm including the ludicrously awesome Omega Weapon in that - not to mention FFX's craziness with Penance and the Dark Aeons.

I also don't remember having any "WTF I'm fooked" moments when playing FF7. It has been years for me too though. Are some of these fights optional? Maybe I missed them, though I doubt it since I remember losing an extreme amount of time playing that game.

the hardest ones tend to be optional, yeah

For me the hardest enemy on the first time trough was the first Jenova (at the end of CD1). The monster wall was also hard, but I had more problems with Jenova...
