Hardware: 27" iMac, Intel i5 with 8 GB of memory.
Software: Windows 7 using Boot Camp.

I can't install several games, amongst which Assassin's Creed 2, Split Second or Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Upon mounting the disk in Daemon Tools (I'm using the latest version of DT by the way) with all security emulation options enabled and starting the setup.exe all I see is a DOS box popping up with the message "Program too big to fit in memory".

A quick Google search brings up several others with this problem, but no solution has been offered it seems. What do I do?

Win 7 x86 or 64bit?

And how is the driver situation as the mac hardware differs a little bit to pc hardware?

x86 (32-bit) Windows 7. The drivers are supplied by Apple, and should be working fine in theory. I've been playing Bad Company 2 for the last several weeks without any flaws, and GTA IV before that. Actually, everything works like a charm Smile I'm using the latest drivers as expected.

Edit: except ofcourse...well... everything I try to install now...

I also double checked that my page file is still ok and big enough (3 gigs), my RAM is freed up for several gigs, etc... I'm starting to think it might be a corrupt file but then again that wouldn't explain why those three games are giving me errors... Strange... really strange...

Weird, maybe you should try a full reinstall Sad

Could be some half-working virus, too.

I were having similar messages with DT while mounting disk images from FAT32 volumes, by default BootCamp assistant creates FAT32 partition. But you have a Windows 7, so it should have converted it during install.

Just to be sure, check what is the file system of a volume with your disk image ?

Oh that could be it. I downloaded the ISO's using uTorrent on my Mac partition (I only use my Windows partition for gaming, really) which uses the HFS filesystem. I tried installing an ISO from an external NTFS HDD and that worked fine (NFS Shift is pretty cool, by the way - hehe ^^). I also just downloaded Football Manager 2010 on the Windows partition and that's also working fine.

Problem solved: this is almost certainly caused by me, downloading the ISO's on Mac and its different filesystem. I'll just download on my NTFS partition from now on! Smile Thanks for the question WhiteBarbarian, it eventually led me to the probable cause.

Thanks everyone else as well for trying to help out. I appreciate it.

Politik, you're welcome Smile

But unless Mac version of uTorrent FUBARs image during download, there is no difference where you download, HFS+ supports large files just fine. I frequently download files on my Mac and later just transfer them to Windows PC.

BTW keep in mind, to use your full 8 GB of RAM switch to Windows 7 64 bit Smile
