|

With the lasted april 2010 update i hear they reenabled hdd install but what about divx/xvid playback and media center. my box is not banned (yet) but i dont want to lose those other functions if i reconnect my box back to live and get banned.

DivX and MC were also reenabled, for those that lost them in the banning process. The thing is, I've actually heard DivX/XviD never actually *stopped* working in the first place... it was only Media Center/Profiles/HDD functionality that was affected.

online only gives you now DLCs and xbla games
if you skip the movie, facebook, radio, indie channel and news on xbl then thats it
updates and demos can be downloaded by different means with your PC and played though you usb stick

Nope. Once you're banned, you cannot access Live for any reason .. not game updates, DLC or XBLA titles. Ban = nothing.

Thought so, although Microsoft's kinda taking a bad approach with that. You should let banned consoles access the DLC/XBLA marketplace. They're basically cutting themselves off from potential customers.

True, and that's why (I believe at least) MS has a pretty fair guess that pirates who really do want to buy the DLC/XBLA titles will just go out and buy a new machine. No account ban, just machine.

Wait... So If my 360 gets banned .. then I loose only online functionality? Everything else works? No more hdd banning and profile fucking up?
(My 360 was never banned and I was never online becouse I was afraid that hdd install will get borked when banned)

Nobody is sure what's going to happen this November, all we know is that if you WERE banned PRIOR to April this year, the April update restores HDD and media functionalities. It doesn't uncorrupt your profile and you still can't take your achievements onto another machine.
This November might change it all again, we don't know.

So am I safe to connect XBL this week for some demos and Arcade trials? (Damn that Earthworm jim! too bad I need jtag for full versions)
I shouldnt get banned and even if, then I will still be able to install games to hdd yes?
I have 1.61 LT and console was only connected once before flashing. I dont want to play anytthing or even having disc in tray.

As long as you didn't get banned last November, and you HAVE been online since then, you should - theoretically - be safe until next November. If you've not been online since then, you may have been flagged .. so it may not be worth it.

Nobody knows. There's no absolute guidelines for the ban procedure, or the ban effects. It used to be every November in a wave, your machine was flagged and then you'd get a ban when you try to sign in. Being banned used to mean you just lost your XBL privileges, but nowadays it also means;
loss of HDD functionality.
corruption of profiles, meaning saves would only work on that banned machine and not any other.
loss of achievements earned on that machine from the time the ban starts.
loss of media ability.
Nobody knows how the new ban is going to affect machines updated with the April patch, because we've not had a wave yet. April comes before November Once the new wave starts, we'll figure out just what will happen. You may lose everything again, regardless of April update being installed, because for all we know; the April update restoring media/HDD functionality was just a mistake by MS.
If you've been online with a flashed machine, there's a good chance you'll be flagged. Not a guaranteed one, just a chance, and in November when the banwave starts, you could be banned. Generally you're safe throughout the year (giving rise to the "I'm not banned, I'm untouchable" syndrome) and only end up being banned in November. So again; follow the advice in my link, try to register your console for a repair. If you can? Generally that means you're not banned or flagged for a ban. If you get an error on that page? Unlucky...
