I have Comcast as my provider and they are going to start offering Norton at no extra charge with our subscription.
I use Avast free right now.
Is Norton something I should try or just stick with what I'm using, which I am very happy with.

Norton is trash. CPu hog. Avast - that is another CPU instensive app. Try uninstalling it - it still remains on your pc. You have to download a special 'fix' file and run in safe mode to uninstall. That right there is garbage for Avast.
Windows 7 - Use Microsoft Essents (free)
Windows XP - ESET

what todd said, pay attention hes right
but if u do use ms essentials, be open to the fact that it can affect say opening with right click a downloaded large file, ive noticed it does this on a few bits if wanted to right click on of late and takes an age to first cache it all and check it.. anyother app did not like nod32 for example..
Soon as i turn off the real time etc on essentials no problem.. its not always the case eseentials seems to work very well as protection but just be aware if you suddenly have issue with looking at a file etc etc.. If you do that could be ur reason, I find I have to add more things to the exception list using eseentials than anyother anti'v/spyware app.

Thanks for the replies. Is this essentials like windows defender? That came with the computer.
Funny, just rebooted my computer and avast now says I have 6 days before free run outs.

No..it's not win defender. Just google microsoft security essentials and you'll find the download. It will check to make sure your win 7 copy is "valid". After that, you're good to go.

Does MSE have a firewall in addition to being an antivirus program?

Seriously, never ever install Symantec software, it installs so many hidden services and crap that it should be classified as malware in itself.

I would write them a letter of complaint as you will be paying for the option to use Norton. Ask them if they will give you money off your subscription charges if you don't use Norton.

man forget all that stuff - use Kaspersky AV. it will run as a 30 day trial and then cease to function. do a little registry editing and you can keep the trial working. if you're too cheap to pay the 45 bucks for it that is.

Halleluja!!! I never heard of MSE, what a great application. After three years without any AV I tried Norton 360, it drove me crazy. Maybe I'm too stupid to set up that shit, but it interfered with so many of my daily apps I was going nuts.
