here it is the most awaited second part of the cthulhu based games
Quote:
Now, it's getting even darker!

Once again, put yourself into the shoes of Howard E. Loreid and delve into a chilling Lovecraftian world which is getting darker every moment.
In "The Dark Lineage", the second installment of the Darkness Within series, Howard E. Loreid discovers his own horrible past is connected with the madness that is about to swallow him.
The Dark Lineage will take you to places where the "things" of the past still live, and all the memories that should be long-forgotten are still remembered; including a drowsy, depressive town called Arkhamend, a victorian mannsion that hides a lot of horrible secrets, a dilapidated building inside a notorious, snow-clad woods and dim underground buildings and tunnels.

The Dark Lineage is coming more frightening and stronger than the previous installment as it is armed with a more advanced, realtime 3D game engine. Interact freely with the game world: use dynamic light sources, carry them with you to light your way, push, pull or throw objects away to find out the underlying secrets and examine every little detail. A fresh and realistic gaming experience which was not seen in any other adventure game is waiting for you.
Prepare yourself for the descending darkness, this time it will be ultimate.

Key Features:

  • A new and more advanced game engine:
With the new and more advanced version of the original game engine of Darkness Within, you can move anywhere you want, light up your way with light sources that cast real-time soft shadows and realistically lift up, push, pull or throw objects with the power of NVIDIA® PhysX™ engine.
  • Built-in Hint System with 3 Difficulty Levels:
Players can choose to play in Standard, Detective or Senior Detective modes.
  • Dynamic Puzzles and Features:
Traditional adventure game puzzles are complimented by deciphering dreams, underlining excerpts in documents to garner critical clues and interacting physically
    with the environment.
  • Enhanced Gameplay Experience:
The proprietary fully 3D realtime game engine enables compelling special effects, stunning visuals, and dynamic lighting and shading, in a first person game environment.
  • Eerie Gameplay Atmosphere:
An immersive experience is created by a fascinating Lovecraftian story, chilling real-time cut scenes, and haunting music.

Already got it Very Happy Never played the first one as I simply can't stand games with Myst like movement (from tile to tile), imho, if you make a fps game then you have to make it 100% free movement.

I think this one is not a sequel to Dark Corners Of The Earth.

I believe this is the sequel to the "Darkness Within" game, it was like Myth.

Yep: Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder (2007)

It wasn't that hard, "Darkness Within 2" sequel to "Darkness Within" Laughing

Indeed it was, but the sequel called "The Mountains of Madness" was scrapped as the developer went bankrupt.

But this game is inspired by Hp. Lovecraft's work and you can move around freely, unlike the Myst games and the first Darkness Within game, so you might say that this is a first person thinker, or first person adventure game Smile

The free movement in the gameplay video linked above actually looked really cool to be honest. Is the atmosphere/music scary? Are the puzzles logical or do they devolve into stupid shit that no one in their right mind would logically think to try?

Well unlike Penumbra, the story seems interesting(SPACE BUGS!). The GFX is decent enough and so is the sound(very atmospheric, freaked me out quite often). My only gripe with it is high difficulty. Ramps up from easy-challenging-doable challenging- to holy fucking shit.

The puzzles are logical, but they require you to be analytical. Not point and click adventure-like but actualy require you to think and make some logical connections.

For beeing a 3d adventure game, the graphics are quite nice, usually the production values on such games are really cheap. The sound is great and it has a great creepy atmosphere.

On the other hand, it seems to suffer from the same problem as the first game did: very confusing/disjointed story. Also, iIt's a direct sequel to the first chapter, so if you didn't play it you probably won't understand much of the already convoluted/confusing story.

this game has 3 difficulty levels , if you play o the first you think you play some streamlined console port that takes you by the hand and shows you where to use stuff Laughing
on normal this game is quite challenging when you need to figure it out for yourself, and your forced to read all things and analyze them for clues , on hard this game is truly insane with its difficulty and it even adds puzzles with no hint system

Actualy I enjoy the puzzles that don't have derp hints covering the whole screen(playing on senior detective(hardest)) and the reading and finding clues, it's just that when I realized how difficult all this is my smile was torn off. I even lowered the difficulty to derp level but that only led me to what I already knew, and didn't help at all.

 Spoiler:

edit: DERP DERP DERP. Just accidentaly dragged one of the puzzle piece at the old house off the table and it felt to the floor(?). Now I can't pick it up or solve the puzzle in any way. Got to the point where realistic and retarded clash! Funny thing being I have no saves before that, just noticed the game doesn't autosave at all. My fault tho for getting used to derp games(ie. Alpha Protocol) where the game autosaves every 60 seconds.

You mean the rectangular "tablets" or whatever they are that are near the old radio in the abandoned building? Shit, I also dropped one to the floor and it "disappeard" through it... I didn't realize it was a piece of a puzzle...

What's the deal with the streched picture on a widescreen monitor? You can change the FOV in the configuration dialog, but not the aspect ratio, which is not actually the same.
