Let me break it down:
My mom owns a toy store. Tomorrow they're having this little special "event" to draw more customers, and it's always a success.
They use a PC at the register which the credit card terminal is hooked up to. When you pay with your bank/credit card, it's registered by the PC and then validated (I guess?) through internet access.
Now, there's something seriously wrong with the internet access, and shit is a bit stressful, cause 8/10 times people pay with their card.
There's another PC in the stock/storeroom (running XP SP3, I guess the cashier PC is running the same), which is used to register new incoming products and stock. This and the register PC is hooked up to router, which in turn is getting internet access through a DSL-modem, so everything is pretty basic.
But the PC's are getting Limited or no connectivity on the internet connection. Even if I connect them directly to the modem.
But I took one of my laptops, and it has no problem with accessing the net, with the same modem/cable As soon as I plug the modem in the storeroom PC, it says Limited or no connectivity, and it takes a few minutes to renew the IP (which it fails to do).
I've released/renewed using ipconfig, flushed/reregistered the DNS, disabled the firewall, removed the old POS Norman Antivirus, I've ran the Winsock XP-fix, installed/scanned with Malwarebytes' Antimalware andAvira - nothing seems to fucking help
But still, it works flawlessly within 10 seconds when i plug the modem in the laptop..
Please, help me!

The official IT Crowed question...
Did you try turning it off and on again?
Bad port on the computer? Try using a PCI networking card. Had that happen once, was such a headache.

If you've released and renewed with ipconfig, I am out of ideas... How is the connection configured? Automatic DHCP receiving or manual IP config?

Better be DHCP, otherwise I'd check those settings first

Might be NIC drivers. At my work we got new Core i3 comps. When we installed XPSP3 and the latest NIC drivers from Intel it caused the same issue as you are having. Downgrading the drivers fixed it. Worth a try.

You give to little info here, how is everything connected?
wired/wireless?
NIC integrated on mainboard or USB or PCI?
If 2 PC's stopped working properly it might also be software (or virus) related, did those pc's had an update earlier?

Wired everything.
Integrated NIC.
I don't think they've been updated, since they are only used for their respective purpouses...

Perhaps the router is locked only to specific MAC range or address?

But I've excluded the router for now, using only the modem, directly hooked up to the NIC. Still no dice..
I don't think it's anything hardware related, since it works perfectly with the laptop.. IP/DHCP is the culprit here i think, i just can't fucking figure out what it is :/

When you run "ipconfig /all" what is the result you get when connected?

Can you give the pc an IP manually? Example 192.168.7.2?
If you wonder how, Ip: 192.168.7.2
one below: 255.255.255.0
one below: 192.168.7.3
Once I had the same issue with a wireless router and I manually gave the pc ip and it worked.
If your modems ip is 10.0.0.1 make the ip 10.0.0.2. Try it.
Sounds like a virus issue to me.

Hmm try replacing the network cable between the router and the DSL modem.

That is part of the problem I can't know what kind of tests you have run so far and with what materials.
Go into the config of the modem to see if it blocks certain MAC addresses.

Actually this modem is a router since it transfers local network traffic to the internet, the device you call the router is also a router but mainly functions as an hub or a switch and routes the traffic to another device.
Anyway, since it happened twice it seems that some kind of hacker does this. Can you perhaps find a way to reset the modem to factory defaults and then reprogram it to function again with the ISP?

did you try to check the modem menu with http://192.168.100.1/ and check the logs for errors
you could also check the MAC (sticker on your modem) of this modem and then write in manually
Device Manager>Networking Adapters>*your adapter*>Properties> Advanced Tab >Network Address>Value :*here write your mac*
did you try to use the DNS value of your laptop that worked fine with this modem
hmm if your laptop works fine then try doing this: plug your laptop , then do "ipconfig /all" on it , write the values , then connect the modem to the PC and copy paste them

i have a question, you have said that those two computers both are connected to the same router
and both have problems connecting to the internet... did you checked that those computers have different gateways that connect to this router
and like it was said earlier try reseting your router, they have always a little hole in the back with a button that can only be pressed by a pin or something thin
edit:
or try reading the pdf up above

well according to that router you can hook up your notebook, look at the ip the dhcp is sending to you and give fix IP numbers to the other two computers by increasing the last digit by 1 for each. That should at least solve the problem for today and tomorrow:)
Don't forget to set the gateway to the routers ip adress (f.e. 192.168.1.1) and the subnetmask to 255.255.255.0 (255.255.0.0 ??)

well since your laptop works with it, you can read out the IP address of the modem by ipconfig
the gateway IP should be the same as the IP of the modem
then type in that IP address in your browser...
