Quote: | CBS has just closed deals for Clarice, a crime drama series project based on the famous Thomas Harris character Clarice Sterling, which is set after the events in The Silence Of the Lambs. The project, written and executive produced by Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, has received a big series commitment.
The intention for the project, which has a pilot script written, is to go to series. It will film a pilot before a series order decision is made but a writers room has already been set up, and there is a lot of enthusiasm for the title, the premise and the auspices at the network. Needless to say, Clarice will be one of the highest-profile roles for a young actress this pilot season. |
Quote: | Clarice is set in 1993, a year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of Clarice Starling, as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.
I hear the character of Hannibal Lecter is not expected to be part of the series. |

Funny, no Hannibal is what makes this interesting in the first place, in my opinion. Otherwise, it would just be a re-run of (I'm sure) better interpretations.

But then what is the point of using her character? It's not a particularly interesting character. So it's just a run-of-the-mill procedural, with "*wink* *wink* remember that movie that you never watched because it's old and you are a fucking millennial?"

Whether the character itself is interesting or not, Foster won the Oscar for portraying the character and a lot of people have fond memories of her performance. Whether the new actress will be good and an interesting story will be written around the character, I can't possibly know.

Hannibelle will be featured as an ongoing antagonist anti-hero throughout the series often offering clues in help of capturing new gritty prolific serial killers each week.
Nah it's interesting. Cause Hannibal stuck to her. But he was really there just for her first big case. They could have her in a special serial killer cases department like will Graham in his series. And she has to solve them using her wits, and doesn't need Hannibal cause she learned a lot.

Yeah. Hannibal was an interesting character but he's got his own series + he's in the movie, i'm not sure how much more you can milk from that.. it comes to a point where it gets a bit ridiculous, where he's more like a super villain.
What's really great with Silence of the Lambs is the overall super dark and creepy tone together with a young student detective.
Clarice is a decent enough character, but it needs to put a good actor in the basket.

At least they didn't take a male character detective from the 90s and turned him into a female character. So that's good.

I have a feeling this is going to be crappy like all the shitty CSI/NCIS-shows with some added drama.

It can be watchable. It has potential.

But what is the difference then between that and The Killing, Rizolli & Isles, The Closer, etc? It sounds like a Generic Tough Police Woman #4874.

Only thing that's different would be the cases, the solutions and ongoing shit. Hopefully.
Strong wamen lead is ok, if it's done well. Rizolli is shit. The closer is weak. Has like one or two good strong wamen bits per season. The killing is ok. There was no need for Hannibal series. At all. CSI. CSI NY. CSI LA. CSI NY. Nypd. Law and order. There's many. What stands out with Hannibal, the killing is they ain't procedural ad revenue trains. So if they make Clarice akin to Hannibal, killing, true detective, Fargo, Luther, broadchurch etc it can be good.
So it has potential. Right now we know squat. If it's gonna be a CSI with wamen... It'll suck. It can suck if it's Hannibal but with Clarice. But it can suck less. Or suck more. Depends on the pilot episode.
And Kurtzman can bounce ideas off of fuller here and there before he goes in deep.

Looks very pg13.
I'm surprised they didn't get fuller to come back for this. But after they did him dirty with s03 and s04 of Hannibal... I can understand why he'd only consult on something like this.
