The near-future drama, a co-production between Hulu and the UK’s Channel 4, is about a crew of astronauts attempting to become the first humans on Mars. Under the direction of visionary aerospace magnate Laz Ingram (Natascha McElhone), the crew contends with peril and personal sacrifice as they undertake the greatest pioneering feat in human history.
LisaGay Hamilton, Hannah Ware, Keiko Agent, Rey Lucas, James Ransone, Anna Jacoby-Heron, Brian Lee Franklin and Oded Fehr also star.
Willimon is executive producing the series with his producing partner Jordan Tappis.
The First is owned and produced by Westward Productions, founded by Willimon and Tappis, and co-financed by Hulu, Channel 4, IMG and AG Studios. IMG will handle all international rights.
Well I wouldn't call 67% on RT bad. It's brilliant, but not at all comparable to MARS, which is all about the science and nothing else. The characters in that are about as deep as a puddle.
This is the exact opposite.
I finished it last week and it's actually quite good: it somehow gets you inside the spirit of the mission, and why a great organization as NASA deserves to live, even when no visible progress seems to be there.
Flaws here and there, of course: pacing is sometimes too slow, sometimes characters' development gets too heavy so much that you get far from the initial reasonings, etc.
In general though is a good effort: looking forward to season 2.
Nah, been watching it and they did the tired old mistake of putting that much focus on the stupid daughter drama and that wife drama wasn't much better. Reducing the interesting bits for the same old standard tv tropes is just bad.
