Quote:
Strike Back: The Story
SKY1 HD: WED 05 MAY, 9PM
High-octane drama explodes onto Sky1 HD this May with an action-packed series based on the multi-million best-selling book by former SAS man Chris Ryan.

Starring Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln, Strike Back is a compelling story of betrayal, glory, redemption and revenge played out through the interlinking lives of two former soldiers: military hero Hugh Collinson (Lincoln) and discharged veteran John Porter (Armitage).

On the eve of the invasion of Iraq in 2003, Porter leads a Special Forces unit on a daring hostage rescue mission into the heart of Basra, culminating in a disastrous turn of events for him and Collinson. Porter bears the burden of guilt, with the repercussions haunting him for years, until an opportunity presents itself to return to Iraq and redeem himself. After several years apart, Porter and Collinson's lives are about to collide once again…

In three stand-alone narratives based in Iraq, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Pakistan, dramatised over six episodes, the stories interweave the dramatic politics of war, with the personal demons of two very driven men: Collinson and Porter.

Filmed on location in the epic landscapes of South Africa on 35mm film for a stunning HD image, Strike Back is set to wow audiences with its cinematic proportions. From scenes of intense combat to the confines of a brutal Harare jail and the desert landscapes of Iraq to the lush greenery of the Zimbabwean outback, HD promotes every dramatic detail with crystal clear accuracy.

Thought it was very so so. Suffered from a few to many modern day television conventions for me. Was hoping for something a little more grounded in reality. Not really, really bad, Im sure many people will like it.

Yeah well the modern conventions are in place to make it acceptable to foreign markets.
While the UK has some of the best film and tv people in the world British investors tend to steer clear of the media so SKY need to find a way to recoup the budget.
Hopefully they'll learn the necessary lessons by the sequel. (book two)

edit:

I watched both episodes now and I get what you mean, there are certain formulaic elements in it but for all that it was damn good.

Saw this thread today and never heard of that show. So grabbed all 4 eps and watched them. Its really good and helps to fill the missing void The Unit left when it got canceled.

^^ It seems British shows don't try to drag shit out forever.. most series are closer to the american definition of 'mini-series' than 24 episodes x 5 seasons (or however that Lost or 24 or Heroes or Prison Break or etc etc) bullshit has been going on.

According to the producers all Chris Ryan's books are going to be made into TV mini series.

Excellent show!!
After The Unit ended, this one has my full attention! Can't wait to see the 4th ep and those yet to come.
Recommended!
The main advantage over the unit is mainly the fact there is no army wives to bore you.

Does any of you guys shoot air soft guns?
I lol'd when, in 2nd ep, the main hero is shooting an MP5SD? at the towelheads. He runs out of ammo, checks the magazine and it's an airsoft magazine (you can clearly see the bb feed) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

The Unit was good for the first episodes, but then it got overwhelmingly US-style cliche and I gave it up.

Is this EDIT: Oh, it's a UK show ? I'm gonna check it out.

Well, maybe the use real weapons sometimes. Still, what i saw in the 2nd ep was definitely an asg MP5SD (with a big ass silencer) because of the mag.
Asg replicas are often used in movies because they are so real steel lookalike.

Big + for the show being a brit show - no fucking redwhiteblue flags and talking about "doing it for your country".

In EP2 it was an airsoft all right, a gas MP5K PDW with suppressor. I noticed it at the start when he tapped the guys coming in the door. The tell tale Co2 plume from the muzzle, and no ejected brass. As you say near the end when he does a mag check you can see the round ring on the end of the mag were the BBs feed.

The AKs and M4s used when firing are proper blank firers as can be seen by the muzzle flash and ejected casings. Plenty of TV and Movies now days will try to get away with using airsoft guns with CGI muzzles flashes etc, all that health op and safety shit and not having to pay an on set armorer. Most people don't notice I suppose , but it shits gun owners no end.

One thing I wish they would ditch is those bullshit bullet hit sparks, so fucking lame! It looked like a firefight with someone throwing sparklers. The show is watchable, will give it one more EP as the preview looked better than the first two.

It's EP3 & 4 that take you out of the British Army formulaic and into the actual show.
So you shoot then Azzman?
