It's so sad how the whole "War on piracy" is based on lack of knowledge.

There will always be a way for the pirate to get what he wants...Can they make it harder for him? Yes... Will they make it impossible for him? No

Nothing will happen.....Brien only cares or can care about Dutch interests.
In Canada, its not illegal to download anything from anywhere as long as you don't profit from it.
The SCoC (Supreme Court) ruled that say downloading a cd is the same as getting off a friend and making a copy.
It when ppl start selling shit that things get ugly. This whole debate is over in NA for the most part (Canada).
Anyone have any idea why these fuckin Brien guys are so anal?
And don't they realize that a lot of ppl who 'pirate' whatever end up buying the media in question. I do it with videogames and movies I'm not sure of. If I don't like it and got it for free, why would I buy it?
Not to mention warez makes a good backup for legal content....cuz I don't know how to crack copy protections thus not allowing me to back up a videogames

here downloading anything is legal (same as above, aslong its for private, non-commercial) use. You can share physical discs (including hd's, flash drives) with friends (movies, music, games). Its illegal to upload copright material tho to strangers ^^.
Luckily i dont upload anything ever.

Hey thenormal, kind of off topic but, were you the one who casted negative vote to every release til Area 51 got released? Back in when we could vote releases and write comments. Also there was some f1 or schumacher or formula guy can't recall his name.

I don't think so. Usenet has become a massive warez depot. I think closing it down does make sense. I sure as hell wouldn't like it, but it makes sense to me.

Then why don't we close down Google? It can be used for the exact same purpose.
It's a flawed logic, by the ones using it never want to admit that.

they are not targetting usenet-search-engines but rather the newsgroup providers, i.e. the server infrastructure. So your google comparison does not make much sense...

Exactly. You can't upload shit or anything like that or make any kind of profit from any form of media.

The ban on uploading clearly isn't working. So I'm not surprised a popular warez medium like Usenet is now being targeted. And if they do take it down, I thinks it's going to be a massive blow to the pirating masses. Tough luck for the few dudes that are using Usenet for other purposes than leeching warez.
I like downloading warez myself (heck I download everything and never buy anything), yet I still think it's perfectly clear that downloading copyrighted material is simply illegal.

First time it was Bethesda Lawyers complaining and the second time it was Bioware/EA lawyers. It's funny how the DMCA can apply to people who aren't even in the USA.
Then I changed my usenet provider to astraweb, haven't had a problem since.
