Hey All

I want to spend the minimal amount of money on the wii as I only use it for two games, but with that in mind I decided to hook up my internet connection to it.
My linksys usb adaptor was suitable for my old PS2 so I hooked it into the Wii but don't even get a smidgen of throughput.
Can you actually use non-dedicated network adaptors on the Wii and if so what am I doing wrong?

thanks in advance

I think you will need the Wii ethernet to USB connector... :\
But isn't the router wifi? Why not just use the built-in wifi to connect?

Edit:

How to connect:

As far as I know, all of Linksys' home-consumer routers have all been wireless for the last few years. Confused

tb doesn't use wifi, he uses hard wired cat5 throughout the house in the walls. (enables me to stream very high def content)

Would it be just be easier to get a small wifi adapter for my pc?

thanks for the link.

edit: wait I just found an unopened NetGear 'RangeMax Wireless G USB 2.0 adaptor that Virgin gave me when they swapped out my old modem, would that do?

I think you will need the special Wii one. USB is not something generic which can be replaced with just about anything. The device has to know how to read the data.

I mean this:

http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-USB-Enabled-Lan-Adapter/dp/B000WY8GW8

This one is 15$ which is a lot for what it does, but I am sure there are knock offs that will give you similar functionality cheaper. Just make sure it is for the Wii. Smile

Thanks Leo, it arrived today and is perfect, plugged straight into the hard wired connection. Smile

Very disappointed by the Wii online experience but I only really purchased it for Monster Hunter Tri and for that it's purrfect.
