Since your avatar and sig are from one of the best comics ever, i d suggest talking about comics instead of one-year dead australians...
Since Bill Waterson stopped doing comics, what do you think are the comics that could fill that void?
I love "Get Fuzzy" for example, as its kind of a cross between the garfield-setup and some waterson like writing, but not good enough to reallly be the alternative...
the FLIGHT-series also offers some good comics that made me feel the same way as c&h strips, just painted differently.
Ok, i m out, it s all yours now

nothing can beat Calvin & Hobbes in terms of strips.
I agree, flight (the first one i have), is good, but it feels overly disjointed, understandable really considering its various stories by various artists.
in terms of pure laughs, Cyanide & Happiness all the way! and its a web-comic.
but now, the serious stuff.
30 days of night series, except the one not illustrated by ben templesmith.
the watchmen, alan moore story telling at its best.
300, frank miller twisting reality perfectly with lynn varley's perfect colour.
Tank Girl and more recently all the gorillaz animations and illustrations coz Jamie Hewlett is a UK lad and a FUCKING GENIUS!

Oh yeah, tank girl was (and still is) awesome!!! When i saw the first gorillaz video i though, damn, i know that line-style and lo and behold, i was right
When it comes to comic-books i was never a big fan of frank miller or alan moore. Great stories, but i never liked the art enough to buy the books (its good that comics arent that big, so one can read em in the store, heheheh). The last comic-book series i bought are Blacksad, the walking dead, skydoll and the series by frezzato about a planet without memory or similar (great art and good story).
I also always loved the sandman stories, but never the art, so i never bought those either. But Neil Gaiman is a great story-teller. His books are even better than the comics imho.
And when it comes to web-comics i m a huge fanboy of PvP and PA, but i ll check out cyanide and happiness out a.s.a.p, thanx for the tip

Tintin still rules the world in terms of aesthetics, good bless Herge, but Calvin and Hobbes, do kick arsch big time.

Pure win.
Calvin and Hobbes is extremely clever still, simple in it's grandieur which is very hard to do.
Dilbert, well, meh. Some of them are excellent but like 80% of them are just mediocre.

I love this thread.!!!!!!
I have not read comics ( I enjoy them, but don't buy them) in so long. It is great to hear people talk about the ones I liked.

Marvel Zombies, since Arthur Suydam is perhaps one of todays best living comuic book artists, after Adam Hughes and Zombies are Cool.

I'm a bit of a comic nerd too.
These are pretty good IMO:
- Scalped.
- The Walking Dead.
- The Boys(Garth Ennis is one sick dude ).
- Supergod(and pretty much anything else by Warren Ellis).

the walking dead is awesome, although it took a while to regain quality after they switched the drawer (sound weird, the guy who does the line art maybe? )
edit: graphic artist is perhaps better
