I have a logitech speaker system.
But i have no sound card as such.
My parents are constantly complaining when I'm on my computer that the sound is echoing downstairs.
Seeing how i have no sound card.
Is there a way to minimise the bass sound through this logitech sound system through windows xp service pack 3?

Thanks Smile

He wants an equalizer as he claims to have no driver where he can adjust the bass level for all application/games.

I have Logitech S-220 and my woofer has a knob with which you can manually adjust the bass...

sorry my engrish is bad but this is beyond, if there is no button or a regulator to adjust sub volume u can always use software that comes with audio card, i just don't know any other way, u can try to disconnect the sub tho Laughing

Don't you have something like Bassboost/Wave out/Line in/Cd Player options when you launch the default Win Xp sound control panel via control panel?

You have no soundcard as such and seemingly no drivers? Get drivers, there ought to be drivers for something...
And why does your sub get a feed anyway. If you dont have any real soundcard or driver settings, then it must be your logitech that feeds your subwoofer. Aren't there any controls on your sub?

1. You DO have a soundcard, otherwise you wouldn't get any sound. What you mean is that you don't have an add-in card, like an X-Fi or Xonar. Your soundcard is integrated with your motherboard Smile

2. Like others stated, you should have a knob on your subwoofer to turn the bass level down; I've got a cheap (40 euros) Logitech set hooked up to my PC as well, and I have one, you should too. Look on the back of the sub.

3. If that fails, figure out what motherboard you have (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php can tell you in a lot of cases) - head to the manufacturer's website and get the audio software. Even the most basic chips have some sort of a software suite available. Assuming you have a PC that's less than 5 years old, chances are it's a Realtek chip as well, which I know for certain have a pretty decent software suite (because the chip also supports jack sensing and what not).

Mine costed ~25€ and they have the knob on the back... I think all Logitech speakers have one, right?

I'm kinda hijacking the thread, but, in W7 in the sound properties doesn't show 2.1 speaker config

Anyone knows why? And I have realtek AC97 drivers but there isn't old 'crab' (or wth that was) icon in CP...

2.1 is stereo. There is no extra channel for the subwoofer.

A 2.1 speaker set does generally not have a separate physical channel for the low frequency effects, as the speaker set downmixes the low frequency components of the two stereo channels into one channel for the subwoofer.

So what is the difference between 2.0 and 2.1? "Generally" = idiots who have hijacked the term.

.1 is the LFE channel. I wonder you did not know that. But since its AC97 he has to deal with stereo since there is no LFE channel in their drivers. At least not the realtek ones i checked some weeks ago. We can be happy they added that damn EQ to their Vista/7 driver after some 4 years.

So does it just discard the .1 (LFE) channel from the source altogether?

It seems you don't know what it is then. Confused

If there is no descrete LFE channel, then it is not 2.1, it is simple 2.0.
As for the Vista/7 EQ, this is due to the better sound stack they have in there.

I think this is up to the driver to provide a slider for the bass, XP or 7.

trying to find some answers on google, indeed it does seem like 2.1 is just a marketing gimmick (or I guess at least it helps people relate it to 5.1 ie 2 speakers and a sub) .. but I guess it does only use the 2.0 portion of the audio track and discard everything else.

You could try the 5.1 setting and map the missing channels to LF and RF but this only works if your speaker setup is really 3 channel. You should have 1 connector for Left/Right and 1 for the bass. If you use FFDShow or MPC-HC you can use the custom channel mapper. But for games, dont know...

Hahaha, my bad, I didn't really mean to. Smile

But I do hate when terms get squashed due to popular use of the term incorrectly. Sad
