My xbox360 finally died so i am going to buy another one. Is it possible to use my old HDD with my new xbox? I don't really care about demos or DLCs, but i don't want to lose my savegames and achievments. My old xbox was not banned in Live

Be aware you can only transfer licenses once per 12 months.
You can still play XBL stuff without transfering the license, you just need to be signed into live.
Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz - 32GB Kingston HyperX - Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 - EVGA GTX 980 TI SC 6GB - Asus ROG Swift PG278Q

Not true. When my 360 died and I swapped the HDD over to a new one, ALL my XBLA titles were set to "Trial" - even when logged in on the same profile they were bought with - and not full games. This was only a month ago, so it's not like that's the "old way" and things are better now. The only way to get them back to full versions again was to transfer the licenses.

Well, now I'm confused.
I bought an xbox in March 09 and transfered all licenses (via website). It got banned.
I bought another xbox in december 09 with a new HDD. I didn't transfer any licenses as I assumed the 12 month thing was in effect. Just redownloaded the XBL games and content and all works fine (i.e. all my rockband stuff, etc).
So, I guess my question here is, is it because I used a completey new console with a new HDD drive?
Oh, can I hijack as well, or more divert as its still an HDD question.
I have 3 consoles and 2 HDD's.
1 console is unflashed and fine.
1 console is flashed and unbanned.
1 console is flashed and banned.
If I use a HDD between the 2 flashed consoles, with 2 different gamertags, do the savegames become corrupt?

DLC may still work, I don't know since I didn't try it personally - but each and every one of my XBLA titles (a sizeable collection, might I add) were set to Trial and the only way of getting them working was to use the license transfer.
As for your HDD question, it looks like they will be corrupted :\

Your Gamertag may be corrupted. This does not mean your gamertag has been banned, you can recover it using any live-capable 360, however ANY ACHIVEMENTS YOU HAVE EARNED SINCE BEING BANNED WILL BE LOST. Your gamertag will be corrupted EVERY SINGLE TIME it is used on a banned console. This means you cannot use your banned console to play backups offline just to get achievements - it wont work, the second you put your profile back on a good 360, it will be corrupted and all progress lost. There is no way around this.
The same applies to game saves - if you access a game save on a banned 360, it too will be corrupted when accessed on a legit/unbanned 360! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! There is no way around this, either.

Ah, cheers. thats what I suspected. However, I might get away with it as I use 2 completely different gamertags. One is completely offline, called "Offline" (so I remember) and the other my usual tag.
From how I interpret the above, its only when you use a gamertag it becomes corrputed so assuming I don't sign in my usual tag on the banned machine, and stick to the offline one, it might work.

It might work, it might not. I've not had any experience (thank fuck!) so I can't advise any more than just giving a link. There's quite a few people on here that got stung in the last banwave, so perhaps someone with more experience can jump in?
