Hi there,

I didn't connect my 360 to live for about two months (when there was this big banwave).

I don't care about online gaming, but still want to be able to install games on the harddisk.

Is there any safe way to check if my console is banned without crippeling the hard drive access?

On youtube there is a video how to check if yout banned by doing a connection test .

When I check that way without signing into my live account will I still be banned and my hard drive crippled?

Thanks for any help in advance.

I have the same issue actually. But there's going to be a patch released that solves the tearing issue in darksiders, and i would like to download that patch if i'm not banned.

A bit offtopic perhaps but i was wondering if people are still getting betting at this moment for going online with 1.61 and am i probably gonna be banned by next november? in other words is it 'safe' to go online for now. (i know its not safe in the long run but i got a new xbox360 and wanted to use it for offline anyways but well if there's no banwaves anymore i might as well use online for now)

Here you go, my post from another thread. I have one banned box that says unavilable and one that works just fine. It works.

Yeah there is a way without using your console from what I read. Log in to the US service site http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/registerdevice.aspx?step=repair (request went through on the European site for me) and request a repair on your console. This is the screen you do not want to see (took the screen myself when I wanted to check if I was banned).

If you get a service unavailable your box is banned.

Now I am just hoping future updates on game discs will not render my HDD useless. We'll just have to see. I am never connecting to live again though. Razz

Well I also wanted to do it to download the patch for darksiders. I registered the box now and I don't get a service unavailable page. But still it's quite risky... Don't know if i should do it.

Well the simple question is: Can the 360 be "banned" and hard-drive crippled just by doing the live connection test? Or is that only possible if try to sign in to live?

Tried to google that but no success... Someone must have tried that allready.

You have to put them directly in the cache folder on the HDD, it won't work from USBs like dashboard updates.

Ahh right, thanks.

Quite a easy method then, is it ok to do? i.e Microsoft won't get pissy or be able to detect it?

well you are not on live... so I have no idea how or why you would care if they can detect...

Oh yeah i got that, it's just i play the backup's on my banned console with my HDD attached. Then put the HDD on my legit console to play COD online and update my score..

My Console wasn't officially banned (didn't get the ban message) so my HDD isn't corrupted.

An easy REAL way to know if you are banned is to call MS and ask them if this serial number is banned like : "i wanna buy a second hand 360, but i'm sure it's banned and it's a con" "do you have the serial number ?" "sure, here it is" "too bad it's banned, don't buy it"....

Works 100%

Show me proof/source of it not working. I have one banned box, service unavailable. Other box not banned goes right to next step. Lots of people are reporting that it works.

Nobodys answer but the answer is, yes, you get banned.
Its exactly what I did (the connection test) and it does ban you and remove HDD installations.

The thing is, if your not willing to connect to live to find out if you've been banned, then does it matter if you've been banned anyway as you're obviously not using XBL? HDD installations isn't all that, we lived without it for 2 years.
