Dune 2 : The Golden Path

History
Welcome to the development page of Dune 2: The Golden Path. This is my attempt to recreate the original Dune 2 from the ground up, using completely original code and incorporating modern-day RTS features (and compatibility with Windows XP/Vista/7, Linux and Mac), with a focus on the multiplayer experience. The only things taken from the old Dune 2 are the graphics, sound, and gameplay style.
When completed, this game will be available completely free of charge to the public. I may or may not release source code at various points during the project, but will most likely release all upon completion.
The original Dune 2 always has a place in my heart. It reminded me of David Lynch's Dune, which appealed to me greatly as a lad, and even moreso now; The heavy paternal overtones and moody musical score makes me think of my father, who suffers from Lewy Body disease. The game itself also reminds me of an entire summer spent playing the game for hours a day with my big brother Aaron.
This page and project are dedicated to my father.

That's... amazing! I loved the game, it was so original in it's age. I can't even remember how much time I spent playing it. It sure brings back memories...

It's pretty decent for an RTS, but this isn't dune 2 at all :/
I don't understand the point in remaking a game if you're just going to change all the rules.

Interface is awful for "modern" standards, why they didn't just go with a wc3 style or c&c style i'll never know.

developer wrote:

Q: Can Infantry and Troopers capture buildings?
A: Not in D2TGP. Instead, they do double damage against buildings that are not marked as "Defended".
Q: Can tanks run over infantry?
A: No. This kind of micromanagement is frowned upon by design.
Q: Why can't I attack the enemy units or buildings I want to attack?
A: Because units will not behave suicidally. They will not ignore closer enemies while attacking under any circumstance.
A2: Because this caused too many problems with units being "aggro'd" and otherwise mistakenly following enemy units to their deaths.

Unit only attack nearest, Moving units take double damage.. the list goes on. D2k > this

Oh, and fullscreen is in the initial options at the menu.

edit: does this work multiplayer for anyone? just exits when I host with other players.. I can host without players fine. (that's great for multiplayer yeah.)
