Hello guys,

This happend to me yesterday:

I run w7 ulti, and I wanted to try supreme commander (the standalone expansion). At some point it started installing directx. Now the game is fro 2007, why would it install an old directx?

Is there a danger in letting older games install their "bundled" directx?

I'm asking this because afterwards, mw2 ran like crap (very choppy framerate) until I did a system restore.

Weird.

Anyone else experice something like this, and what is the best practice for older games and them installing old directx versions?

No, there's no danger. The DX distributable just contains all the files in case the game needs a specific one, it won't overwrite with "older files" it will just add them. You can run any age DX installer and it won't negatively impact on your current setup.

Ok thanks for the quick reply! I guess it must just have been lag or something in mw2. It did take a very long time with the directx "install" on that supreme commander expansion.

dx9 and dx10/11 files are seperate on the vista/w7 platforms
it's mind boggling that they actually did leave out dx9 dlls from the base w7 install
so you HAVE to install them
preferrably the latest ones from microsoft site
if mw2 used a dx9 renderer, it's possible it did run slower if the dx version was older
