Quote:
After Life follows Tony, who has a perfect life before his wife suddenly dies. After contemplating suicide, he then decides to live long enough to punish the world for his wife's death by literally saying and doing whatever he wants to. Although he thinks of it as sort of a superpower, the situation turns tricky when everyone around him starts trying to make him a better person again.

Looks good Smile

I haven't seen his previous show, Derek, which is supposed to be excellent.

I saw three episodes.. this really feels custom made for 50+ year old people (women and perhaps some men might like this too). It's overly safe and cute, doesn't matter if the theme is hardcore drugs or prostitutes you can be sure it has a cute outcome.

Not entirely bad i think, might watch if i need a feel-good series or if my testosterone just dies off completely Wink

One thing i directly noticed is how many of the characters dialogue is exactly how Ricky would have said it, it seemed a bit weird at times, he could have worked a bit to make it sound like they're all not just different versions of him. It's mostly when it's jokes though.

The suicide ramblings and whatnot are rather easy to accept due to his condition, it's established early on so there's no shock value at all to it.

I didn't know about the thing with the addict though, that does sound dark Smile i bet there's cuteness somewhere in there though, i might continue watching Laughing

2 episodes in, and I like it. Although it's a typical British/Ricky Gervais show, in terms of how the story plays out, humor and the characters and their interactions. So perhaps a bit safe in that regard. (unless Ricky actually kills himself in the last episode Laughing )

Glad they renewed but struggling to see where he can go with this.

They're going to struggle to develop further any emotional attachment, which means he'll have to fall back on the humour (which wasn't very regular).

Should have left it as one season tbh, and tried something different.

I just binge-watched the first season tonight, I almost gave up in the first episode because it was too gloomy but I stuck with it and I liked it. But what is gonna happen in the second season? They already did the good ending cop-out (I say cop-out because it was too easy)

I feel that maybe this show gave what it had to give. By the way, best joke of the season was the vaginal yeast one Laughing

Cast is good except the awkward indian woman with zero charisma and personality. Her dialogue is also minimal and she has no jokes or backstory. Maybe that character was added at the last minute, that's what it feels like. I want to see more of that flagrantly gay and narcissistic clothes salesman Laughing

Indian girl still only exists and does nothing. Other characters are great!

It's pretty good, yeah. Although I feel there's not a lot of progress compared to s01, but it's pretty realistic in how it depicts grieving. Not as funny as previous season, apart from the scenes with the psychologist. The guy who delivers the papers is great as well ("a man who has lost interest in the anus, has lost interest in life" Laughing )

I had this one in my backlog for a while and thought why not, I'm not in the mood for getting all dreary but it's Gervais, it'll surely be lighthearted. Bloody hell Ricky, you even made me tear up you 'andsome cunt <3

It was funny though, and also incredibly sad, but still hilarious and heartwarming at the same time, a full charming package of genuine feels and brilliance. The way it focuses on all the little things and nuances is almost therapeutic, really. Most of the people in the show are great, loved the wise lady, the crazy psychiatrist, the postman, Roxy, Slugman, Kath (who reminded me a bit of Karl Pilkington Razz), and the fact that Gervais is practically playing himself instead of a silly persona definitely does help as well. I've devoured the two seasons in one evening and now I'm sitting here pondering about life like a ninny. Well player Ricky, well played.

Just finished S1. What a nice little story. Loved seeing some familiar faces. Kerry Godliman, Roisin Conaty, Joe Wilkinson, Diane Morgan, etc. Great cast.

All those scenes in the retirement home reminded me of that short film about the pregnant woman waiting at the bus stop ("The Wait"). Especially the last one where he remembered things for a second. Crying or Very sad Dementia is one of the most fucked up way to grow old.

Noice I was just wondering if Season 3 dropped yet. There is something about British shows about miserable old men...

I do recommend this as well if you enjoyed this show:
