Explore: send scout vessels to find new mines to exploit, new planets to colonize, and to establish contact with other empires.
Innovative research system: technologies and equipment will get unlocked depending on your investments in fundamental and applied research.
Diplomacy: Dialogue with other factions to gain their favor, trade goods, and make military agreements to fight common enemies.
Command your troops: when a battle starts you can join the battlefield and maneuver your ships in a tactical mode. Alternatively use the auto-resolve mode when you have more urgent tasks to attend to in your empire.
Unique espionage system: seed false intelligence to enemy spies and lure them into a trap!
Tried this one a couple of days ago, got hooked and been playing this one balls deep so to say
Game is very classic and simplistic 4X - here the more you have of everything the better it is

Maybe I just got tired of overly balanced 4Xs with artificial restrictions to support tall / wide empires and victories others than a conquest but simplicity of this game makes 4X phases very distinct and refreshing
Game is mix of Distant Worlds, Ascendancy and Pax Imperia: Eminent Domain, methinks.
Love the way empire borders are implemented - all un-owned systems becomes part of your empire automatically if the only way to reach them is via a colonized system belonging to you. This makes explore and expand phase so much fun. Do I colonize this great Earth-like planet or this useless planetoid in strategic choke-point which makes tens of systems part of my borders ?
Same for the fuel concept - Fuel for ships is unlimited resource and ships auto-refuel in yours colonized systems only --> Supply lines
The scale of the game is ENORMOUS. You can't just build a couple of big ships and go invade systems as they will be totally obliterated by hundreds of smaller fighter jets which are very cheap and very fast to build. So, you need lots of carriers and they need lots of resources and to get them you need lots of planets, etc...
Early game conquest is almost impossible and is limited to border skirmishes due to fuel / supply lines. And only if there is no fighter jets in that system. Limited early rushes - Good
If you didn't overexpand and carved you territory right game will be in constant stalemate and you must exploit every opportunity you get very fast before the window closes so to say
