i read the description and feel instantly that its gonna be low budget bullshit.... anyone else with me on this?
Budget is not everything. The original Predator and Alien were all smaller budgets and were still great. It is the talent behind it, not the budget that matters.
The Predator and Alien franchises died the day they made that awful AVP movie. And with the sequel it descended into the genre of the 'Godzilla vs whatever' kind of crappy movies the japanese like to watch. This new movie can't undo the damage that has been done but I don't think it is aimed at the fans of the original franchises. This will probably be another 'Star Trek' kind of drek aimed at the Transformers crowd. Throw in some 'hot chick' for the horny nerds and the rest will take care of itself.

If they keep out the alien-aliens I don't think this will be especially terrible RR is allright and if he vouches for Nimrod() Antal then I bet he can do a decent job. Brody and Fishbourne has to count for something as well
I know that the above rant makes me sound like the comic-book guy or some purist whining on imdb but that is the way I felt when these two franchises met in AVP. It could have worked but they went for the cheapo look and cheapo tricks and lame forgettable characters. I still remember even the dead guys from Alien(s) or Predator. They've been parodied and quoted into our memory. How many characters do you remember from AVP Requiem?
I, unlike you guys, don't blindly believe in some director since I don't think that a single person (even the director) can make a shitty plot/cast/budget look good. I am afraid, as I've already said, it will end up looking like Star Trek where they cast pretty faces and the story be damned. That whole fresh recruits promoting each other to captain, first officer, etc was just too hard to swallow. And my favourite ofcourse was FUCKING TRANS-WARP BEAMING FOR FUCK'S SAKE!
The "AVP scenario has been done quite well really, the DC comic which started back in the 90s had some great ideas and felt more like the AVP games. This looks ok'ish the dog seems a bit far fetched but we'll see
Looks alright...I'm having a tough time not expecting some alien to come shooting out of the side of the screen but lets hope the movie is good enough to escape that

not impressed. not HATING it or anything, but this really doesnt look anything epic special or whatever. looks pretty standard by-the-numbers action movie.
2 things though - 1: im really really REALLY glad this isnt a remake, and theyre doing their own thing with it, and 2: it does look like its shot really quite nicely, so im expecting the production value on this to be quite good...
so yeah. its not on my omg gotta see list, but when it does show up ill definately grab it, and try my best to enjoy it.
btw does anyone else just HATE morpheus. hated him in the matrix, hated him in csi.. just flat out dont like the dude... i think hes gonna be a weak-link in the film.
well that surprises the hell outa me, because i honestly thought... given his screen-time in the trailer, and the fact you see him in what LOOKED like some pretty varied locations and situations, that he was going to actually survive the thing, or atleast die near the end... but if hes only got a token role, then thats GREAT.
also i think its great arnie turned em down.. that allows the films to kinda co-exist rather than this one trying to take over.. i dont think arnie as a cameo would have worked if he was playing the original role, and i dont even think bringing him BACK as a core character would have worked....
so yeah, that little spoiler makes me feel a little more optimistic about the movie now... unless its all lies... but i doubt it would be, because this is the internet - the most reliable source of information in the world.

So the Fishborne character is there just for the known actor and for shock value. He has supposedly been on that planet for very long, and has always betrayed the others to survive. This time it backfires and he gets.
The shot in the trailer where Adrien Brody is illuminated with many Predator lasers is consistent with the Arnold ending - The survivers kill every predator, a ship lands, and a group of Predators comes out, targets them with the lasers and then one of the Predators removes his mask and it's Arnold.
Dutch's existence is acknowledged by someone mentioning that the original Predator was killed by a marine which was later brought in for questioning but he disappeared.
I think ties to the original are important to distance it from the AvP franchise, it worked for me I'm a little bit more pumped now, somehow , Especially them knowing about some predator being there on earth before and Dutch
