MPC plays the .MKV rips, to play straight BR Retail disks it won't do it.

Well, we use VLC to play DVD's in our college. Once we used our faculty PC to watch some BD romance, so I guess it plays BD'd without a problem (full menus and stuff).

You can use WMP, Windows 7 has complete bluray compatibility. Edit: Apparently not? Not sure now.

You can also use WMC, by feeding the main M2TS file (largest) from the Stream directory. Smile

I use Total Media Theatre 3, works pretty good and has support for bluray and high definition audio.

http://www.arcsoft.com/estore/software_title.asp?ProductCode=TMT3P

I actually could never get powerdvd to stay registered ... it would always "figure out" I was using a pirated version but no such problem with TMT Smile

You also need to use a legitimate BluRay program because BluRay on computer doesn't have mouse support in the same way DVDs did ... you can't select stuff in menus using a mouse -- you need to use a little virtual remote control built into the program Smile

^^ glad to hear. I was going to mention that, but it actually seems officially "HD-DVD' doesn't appear in the documentation/features list on the website (just lots of BR logos, even though they used to be explicit about HDDVD support).

you gotta wonder why powerdvd would drop HDDVD support .. it's not like that standard is being updated or anything.

well, with that standard not being updated or used period, it was a waste of licensing
