I want to upgrade myu videocard as i still have an old DX9 card (ATI X1900XTX). But do i also need to upgrade to a faster mobo/processor? I want to do that next year anyways, but will the new card give improvements with the setup as it is now?

You should overclock a little, buy another 2gb of RAM and then buy a midrange card like a gtx260 or ATI equivalent (4870 I think ?)

I would wait a little bit until the prices drop for HD5850 or HD5870, because HD4870 runs better than HD5770 :\

i've got a 4400+ on the 939 socket and saw no increase going from an 8800gt to my 5850, OC'd it from 2.2ghz to 2.8 and saw about a 40FPS incrase in dragon age.

hd5770 is a good choice, has 1gb, dx11 and low power and the stock cooling is pretty good also. That and its not expensive at all compared to the 5800 series.
when you upgrade the rest you can still use it in your new system, it will play almost all your games ( excluding GTA4 / arma 2 ) at max settings easely.
