Or rather, some jerk tried to steal over 400€ from my credit card with that name. No prob, canceled the reservation with a call to the bank, but they thought it'd be best to cancel the card too. Now I have to wait a week for a new one and I can't order the stuff I sorely need. Sad

Guess it's time to start using VCC's or get a secondary bank account where I transfer money only when I need to buy something. Always been real careful about where I input my CC number and I know my PC is clean but guess that's not enough.

you might consider getting a special type of VISA

i know in my belgian bank, i can get a visa pinto which is specially protected. So when you pay online using VISA (just like you would do with a rergular VISA), you always have to confirm your payment by doing a old-school money transfer within 2 months.

So you have the ease of paying using only your card anytime anywhere and the security by confirming withing 2 monts. The only downside is that you have to pay 1% extra on every payment.

I personally dont have it, because i dont use visa that much and i would forget to confirm my payments using the old-school transfer, but it might be something for you. Just check @ your local banks.

In belgium it is called KBC VISA Pinto... unfortunately i cannot find an english document... Im lazy, ill put the dutch version through babelfish for a superior translation quality Cool Face

I guess sooner or later some kind of online authorisation check will become mandatory for CC use, till then CC's will stay insecure.
inz, that site where your CC was abused, prolly didn't ask for CCV?

I've actually no idea what site (if any) the charge came from; in my online bank balance page there was nothing but a credit card transaction #, and only when I called the bank did they mention the charge being from "Nokia Online" - didn't think of asking any details since I was pissed and just wanted to get rid of the reservation. Razz

I've used the card in a lot of stores over the years (mostly big ones like amazon, but a few smaller ones as well), so I was half-expecting something like this to happen sooner or later - it only takes one disgruntled/fired employee to steal the cc database after all.
