I'm thinking of treating myself to a nice watch for xmas.. I don't like gold/silver so those are out of the question.. I prefer the mechanical, wood/steel/leather mix ones Smile

I'm looking to spend around £200 tops, so no Rolex pls Laughing

I saw this one which is my current fave at £140 :

Wristwatches are obsolete in function, and tbh I haven't seen many that'd be worth wearing purely for their aesthetic value. Brown is a crap (Cool Face) color on pretty much anything, but it's a nice enough design otherwise I guess... I like that "cracked" leather band.

I quite like the brown/black mix. Probably will get the black strap version, though.

I think brown looks nice if its dark enough, light brown looks poo. Laughing

I've also stopped wearing a watch. They really are usually obsolete now. I also can't stand having something wrapped around my wrist like that.

That said if I were shopping for a new watch I would get http://www.debaufre.com/content/view/318/213/ one of those. They are generally overpriced like any other designer timepiece. However, I love them because of their aircraft-style design. The CSAR designs are my favorite.

Fossils are junk, try a Seiko, their mechanical movements are much better than the Chinese crap Fossil will be sourcing.

Try a Seiko SKX007.. probably the best watch you can buy for the money. You can find them for 150USD on ebay. Locally you will be looking @ 300 or so.

Just a tip, buy the watch not the strap, you can always buy a strap later. THey are easy as pie to remove and replace.

Watches are fun to wear, they are more convenient than pulling out your cell phone everytime you want to check the time. Plus with automatics there are no batteries to change, ever.

fossil watches are indeed quite crappy when it comes to quality, but if you simply want somehting that is cheap and looks good, they're not necessarily a bad choice.
one thing i hate about fossils though is that most are simply too big in diameter. so if you don't have massive wrists, be sure to try them on in a shop before buying online.

stopped wearing watches years ago, but i've still got my old jacques lemans chronograph for wearing with a suit or simply bling purposes Razz

It is a watch, it tells time. Do you really need that that showy piece of business?

Maybe I am missing something here but.. Are you going to pass it on to your kids or something? It is a nice looking watch with the gears and all... But still. I guess you have expensive taste.

both are only less than $250 pistol Wink

I would say I do have expensive tastes but I would never spend stupid amounts of money on a watch..

I don't know, I've always been attracted to clocks and watches in general, my gramps used to collect them for a long time so I guess I inherited it from him. I like them, lol.

tssk mort it's not about telling time or convenience.. it's about image and having shiny stuff. I have two friends who are really into watches, one is a mac fan and the other is only bisexual.

Hey dude, I have a fossil watch, although its about 80 pounds and with a thick leather-rim that is bigger than the clock itself. It is analogue and then has a digital background that counts seconds either in a flowing animation or old fashioned tick like you get on the VCR's ;D

I like it a lot and the first battery held for like 3,5 years Smile

Also there are lot of twats in this topic who are either 14 or already fat and with kids because nobody in their right fucking mind buys a watch solely to tell time. I don't get what is wrong with having a pretty watch especially for nice occasions.

I had a really nice watch at about 250 pounds back when I was a couple of years younger and now that my taste has changed I'm glad with my current one. Although my family has always been glad for nice watches for some reason.

yeah, even though fossil are "cheap", no fucking way I would by a Omega/Tissot/Rolex etc.

At least they look decent and aren't in the $1000+ range. $200 is plenty.

I would still say they are good quality watches and you should expect that with a 200$ price tag.

yeah, for $200 I expect quality not shit, just not maybe a james bond caliber watch Wink actually, I'm not sure of that many other manufacturers that are similar to Fossil (stylish but cheap)... anyone know of those that distribute internationally?

What's so good about them? Most of the ones I've seen at the mall dont even use stainless steel, they use crappier metal and chrome plate it so the layperson can't really tell. Not to mention the generally inferior chinese mechanical movements they spec for their mechanical watches (quartz watches are fine). Im not saying they're terrible but there are way better watches you can get for your money.

they are cheap. and relatively stylish.

sorry but $1-200 is plenty for a watch. I'm not a yuppy that needs a $1000 accessory for that odd time I need to wear a suit for work Wink

but then again, a good watch is something that you have for years, if not decades. i'd rather buy a timeless quality watch that lasts a lifetime than some trinket that'll either break or loses its appeal after a short while.
