I used Grabit till now and since some days its bugging out like every download.... it downloads files and wont write em into the folder or from 60 files are 50 dmg etc.

Now i tried News File Grabber its not bad, but i prefered the simpler grab it interface.

I dont care about searching with the tool, i just want a good downloader which extracts when its done (using the pars before would be a plus^^).

The thing with grabit is that i need to reinstall it every month or more often since something breaks...no clue why.

I'm still a fan of Grabit, even though the stupid POS doesn't support speed limiting, and you have to pay to use the search function >_>

Do you use Newzbin? If so, get the following:

sabnzbd+ - it runs as a service and downloads only the PAR2s needed to fix, it then fixes, extracts, and renames everything - tv shows etc in proper format.

then, download greasemonkey for newzbin, and install the addon. Once done, search for SABTAB2 and install it. Now, when browsing newzbin you just find what you want, click on "Add to sab queue" and it does everything. its sweet as, and works over a network too (so your server can run sabnzbd as a service!)

Really? I have build 9507 (64 bit) and i don't have to pay. Search function works fine. I also use some of the free web-based searchers..just import the .nzb files.

I think you only get the first 10 searches free or thats how it use to be, i use to pay extra for the search function but dropped it after finding another service cheaper Smile useing build 9644 (64 bit) here.

Newsbin Pro has some nice features and has a native 64-bit client, however the GUI is so-so. I really love the tree-list download view that Alt.Binz has, but unfortunately for me it instigates a BSOD on Win7 - so I am looking for alternatives.

I found out the Newsbin Pro dev is looking into adding grouping in the next version, but who knows if and when that might be.

On the downside it looks to me like Alt.Binz is slowing it's development cycle, it's donationware (I would prefer shareware instead, so you could trial newest version like with Newsbin and other software), and it's a one-man-show?

How is the feature and GUI capabilities of SABNZB holding up against the other clients?

That's just pathetic. Altbinz does all that out of the box and much more. It has every popular nzb search engine integrated, autorepair, autoextrat, amazing queue tab, rss, temp files caching to ram so hdd thrashing is minimal, and so on and so forth.

Sabnzbd is so primitive compared to Altibnz it's just laughable.

I've tried Newsleecher, Newzbin and sabnzbd+. No other client does what sabnzbd+ does, and the directory-scan feature is awesome.

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Why don't you guys just write your own newsleecher?

You think of Battlefield 3 and it automatically starts downloading secretly from secure EA/DICE servers...

I've been using Newsleecher and I've actually been paying for it, because I've never found another method to use Super Search w/out paying for it. Don't they check how many times each key is used and eventually blacklist those keys being used 1,000+ times?

Stop slagging stuff off just because you don't like it. Altbinz is good, better than Grabit, which is a fairly heavy resource monkey. Sab leaves it in the dust though.

What makes Sab so powerful, are the post-processing scripts. Mine's all set up to sort and rename all my TV shows after downloading them, which works amazingly well with Mediaportal, especially when coupled with the My TV Series plugin, as that doesn't work too well with some of the shit filenames you find on the web.

Besides that, somehow Sab is quicker at repairing/extracting than most other clients, while being more resource friendly. Add in that there's an active community behind it, and it's still being developed for free to the public, which Altbinz isn't. Latest publicly available version is from 2007? :E

Yeah, the Sab GUI can be regarded as "primitive", but it does everything it needs to do, and then some. For me though, the most important fact is that it utilises computer resource properly; got it running on an old P4 2.8 with 1GB of RAM, and it has no troubles keeping up with the downloads. Grabit can't decode articles quick enough for my internet connection (120/10), and Altbinz slows the system a hell of a lot down once it starts repairing and extracting - not good for me as I stream all the series down to my HTPC.

+1 to Sab for me, just because it's free unlike Altbinz (I'm sure the latest versions do multicore/HT repairing&extracting fine, I just cba to pay if there's a free alternative).

Edit: if the default web interface of Sab annoys you btw, there's plenty of GUI's out there for both all its supported OS's Wink

So no other client does what sab does, then i suspect it has a search feature which doesn't require you to download a million headers, or pay for nzb service elsewhere then?

i have been always using grabit but after reading this will give altbinz a try - my only problem with grabit is when I enable to auto extraction process - it is very slow and takes a lot of resources - even with 12 gigs of ram and a i7 overclocked
