My $14 for the game I'm playing right now was allready worth it. If he were to just stop development right now, and not even release the update on the 31st the game would still be worth the money.
Because that isn't the product he sold. Great if you're happy, but the advertising and promises made at the time when this was selling like hotcakes were pure fabrications
Are you fucking kidding me. When you goto the minecraft site all he is selling is the current game + any future updates. Thats it.
As quoted from the website -
"Here's what you get:
•You never have to pay again!
You get all future versions of the game, including all expansions and addons.
•You help fund the development of Minecraft
•Custom skins in multiplayer
•Once you've bought the game, it's yours. No DRM.
•Survival mode! "
This ultra-entitled horseshit people have been spewing out these days is disgusting. Go eat a dick if you think it is acceptable to DDOS an indie developer who has allready put out a great product as is.
Wrong champ, when he took my money the minecraft site was nothing more than a text document that said nothing like that at all.
The ultra entitled dick sucking fanboy bullshit that surrounds this game is reaching embarrassing levels.
It's advertised as an alpha, it's sold at a reduced price because a beta is coming "eventually"
The game was also touted as being heavily in development, but other than duct taping the system so that he can take more money, there has barely been anything added to the game in 2 months (yes something is coming "eventually" but it's not here yet)
I also never said it was acceptable to DDOS an indie developer? where did I say that? Then again maybe you're having trouble seeing the conversation with your head buried so far up notch's asshole.
The fact that he's repeatedly talked about future updates and versions means it's coming, and so is a finished game, it's just not making any progress towards that.
That's what the game was selling on. While the current version of the "game" is somewhat amusing for a time, its actually quite light on content. Oh yes, we can spend all day making giant penises and "surviving", you know because that's so hard, but it's got about as much challenge, and less content than second life at this point (while at least looking better)
This ultra nazi fanboy persona doesn't really help defend the game or notch. In fact it only makes it look worse. The only people I've seen defending the game at this point are those who are willing to turn into raving lunatics the moment someone mentions anything bad about the game. The game, nor notch are perfect, and as such some people are going to take issue with that, and if that is too much for your delicate sensibilities then I suggest you get off the internet, because you're not going to be able to avoid it.
All I hear is someone burt hurt and incapable of waiting for someone to develop a game. No updates in 2 months? Ok? Am I supposed to care. It was/is a small indie game in Alpha stages sold as-is. Deal with it.
And yes, the game definatly has some flaws. However, considered it is being sold as an 'ALPHA' I don't really give a fuck. For my $14 i've allready gotten hours and hours of entertainment. So even if I never touch the game again and it is never updated - I've still gotten my money's worth.
You could spend the same on a 2 hour movie. I spent the same on this game and i've gotten at least 40 hours of entertainment so far.
I also love how you are calling me entitled. You are a moron. I paid $14 and have been satisfied at a product coined as an 'Alpha' in development. You paid $14 and expect the fucking world to bend over and deliver CRYSIS-CRAFT RETAIL 5.0 in 2 fucking months.
It was/is a small indie game in Alpha stages sold as-is. Deal with it
No, it wasn't.
It has never been sold as-is. This game cannot be brought up without "Future" development being brought up.
When he was moving units so fast it brought down the server, he was still claiming it was in "heavy development" which was a lie at the time and is still a lie now. Minecraft has never once been framed as being a finished as is product.
Quote:
You paid $14 and expect the fucking world to bend over and deliver CRYSIS-CRAFT RETAIL 5.0 in 2 fucking months.
Where did I say that? Again your mouth-breathing fanboyism is showing again.
You can't make an argument, so you just make things up.
I've repeatedly said that I'd be happy with some thing. He doesn't need to finish the game in 2 months, but considering that he was doing pretty steady development prior to getting rich, and once the money flooded in he almost dropped off the face of the earth, it isn't encouraging.
As I said, you may not give a fuck, but others do. As paying customers they're perfectly in their right to do so. Notch is a big boy, assuming he wants to defend his actions he can do so, he doesn't need you to do it for him.
Because that isn't the product he sold. Great if you're happy, but the advertising and promises made at the time when this was selling like hotcakes were pure fabrications
By that time, it already had that site Mchart quoted. Thats when I bought it and thus there were no promises made to me that entitle me to any complains yet.
What exactly did it say when you bought it?
Jesus fucking christ - first off, even bitching about a game that costs 10 fucking euros?
Secondly - he hasn't updated the game in TWO MONTHS!? Holy shit, what a traitor!
And how about the other 200 times he has updated the game and added content and features that the PLAYERS WANTED? But no, now he hasn't updated for two months - well you know, it's not like there can be a reason for that.. OH WAIT, he has said numerous times that he is starting/setting up his own company, and belive me, I know how that works and it's alot of shit to do. And besides that, you can't fucking demand that whenever he has some free time, he has to work on the game? We're talking about ONE INDIVIDUAL HERE!
If the game was subscription-based and he promised updates for the next two months, and nothing came - yes, you would've had the right to be pissed, because that means many people would've bought a sub based on that.
Or, if 100.000 people buys it, then the next day he says "I'm dropping the game" - again, you can go ahead and rage.
But now? Come fucking on...

Money is money.

Which coincides with the rocket to popularity and the massive influx of cash.
Given the speed he worked at before the he got the money that is the issue.

Nothing, because the site was wiped and all he'd thrown up was a text page saying here is a link to buy the game.
Prior to that it had said (and had been reported, discussed,e tc) that it was under heavy development and in alpha (alpha being a stage of development, which any reasonable person would expect, and is implied to mean there will be further development)
Quote:
OH WAIT, he has said numerous times that he is starting/setting up his own company, and belive me, I know how that works and it's alot of shit to do.
The updates stopped weeks before he said he was setting up a company.
Quote:

Actually in september a hell of a lot more than 100,000 people bought it and he basically dropped off the face of the earth.
Prior to the money flowing in, he was updating it regularly with a lot of content. I've mentioned it before, there is a great time line on the official forums which details when the updates came out and what he announced was going on in his life.
The game was updating the game more and better when he had a completely different full time job to go to.
When the money started rolling in, he quit his day job to "focus" on minecraft and since then basically nothing has happened with it.
The first couple of weeks back in early summer he pumped out a lot, but there hasn't been anything to speak of since the end of a July.
He seems to have a funny idea of what "supporting development" means. If that is what we're taking the cost of the game to be for. If I'm supporting development then I'd like to see some.
It was mentioned weeks ago that there were even some trivial things he could do that would at least have shown he was doing something (like say adding a fried egg)
and hes' not 1 guy, as you said, he's starting a company and it's 4 people now.
This whole starting a company was supposed to free him up to work on the game, but it's made the future of the game even more vague.
You are a douche. You are ignorant to the fact that you are douche, so I won't hold it against you. (As most douches are.)
However, you most definatly are a douch dude. Just take it from me.
As they say it takes one to know one.
It shows how weak your argument is, but that is the failing of all fanboys. They have no logic to support their position. Just pure blind devotion. When all else fails drop all pretense of supporting the product. Really you should pretend you don't like it, because you're idiocy only reflects poorly on it.
I'd really like to see a grunge match between Apple Fanboys and Minecraft Fanboys. Apple's are pretty damn fanatical, but the Minecraft mouthbreathers really take it to a whole new level. I like the game, but I feel mislead and I can at least look at it objectively.
You clearly have no idea how setting up a company works, what it takes/needs to manage the incredible ammount of money he has gotten when the game was selling the most, looking for/planning/funding an office building - that takes more than two months. Just dealing with the bank and the National Tax Board (Swedish IRS) takes a shitload of time and paperwork here.
And, the big topic here is "no updates in two months" - I bought the game September 14th.
So let's see, when was the last update that actually added and fixed something?
September 10th and 18th - together they fixed/added the following:
# Added sneaking/crouching.
# Grey screen bug that made the game basically unplayable, since a grey overlay flashed constanly; now fixed: [1].
# Added new paintings.
# Added ability to change mouse sensitivity.
# Added sliders to change volume of sound and music.
# Added a Fishing rod (no practical use as of now).
# Fixed bug with furnaces in multiplayer[2]. (Although there still are some bugs)
# Some users are reporting problems with sounds.
# Personal skins not active until the Minecraft.net server is fixed.
# Minecraft is currently free-to-play for the weekend. Login server is not working correctly.
# Option to toggle FPS / Debugging has been replaced with the F3 key. F3 + S key also reloads all web-loaded resources.[3]
# Made day-to-night and night-to-day transitions smoother.
# Made solid snow blocks only drop four snowballs. (fixed infinite snowballs glitch)
* Added server-side inventory
* Made the server save player locations when they leave the server
* Made chests work in SMP
* Made signs work in SMP
* Made furnaces work in SMP
* Added monsters=false to server.properties. You can turn it on for experimental monsters, but you can’t hurt them directly yet. (Fire works, though!)
* Compass Added.
* Furnaces can now be powered by a bucket of lava. (The bucket as well as the lava will be lost if you choose to do this.)
* Clay is more common when a world is generated.
* Torches can no longer be placed on tree leaves.
* Sheep now drop between 1-3 cloth instead of always dropping 2
So, for your sake, let's say that the last update was September 10th. That means, that ONE MONTH AND TWO WEEKS have passed since then - and since there already is a planned update/patch coming for October, there won't even be two months between updates!
So yeah, the more I think about it, you really have no fucking ground to whine.
And please, don't call me a fanboy or something - I stopped playing about 2 weeks after I bought it, since I thought some things needed fixing before I spent serious time on it. So what did I do? I'm giving it some fucking time - because I've already paid for it, so I can go back playing whenever the hell I want, be it 20 patches later or not.
Watercooled 5950X | AORUS Master X570 | Asus RTX 3090 TUF Gaming OC | 64Gb RAM | 1Tb 970 Evo Plus + 2Tb 660p | etc etc
And what was actually added in that? Some pointless paintings and sliders? wow
compare that to the early summer where he basically added everything that makes the game what it is now.
In terms of actual game content, there is nothing there even worth talking about.

Again, quality updates stopped long before he announced that he was forming a company.
He's looking for an office for a small number of people. This does not take months. No realtor will meet with him around the clock. He likely has hired a pro to do his tax paperwork, no one but an idiot would try to do that on their own.
Sorry, but you can line right up there with the Notch apologists, but the fanboys give it away when they try to talk about how busy he apparently is, but can't make a genuine case for it, and then to show what an awesome guy notch is they try to talk about how he produced so much quality content in the past in such short spurts of time.
Holy shit - that picture is just retarded, who made it?
So we have fanboys who defend Notch left and right whatever he does (I however do not, since I have some COMMON FUCKING SENSE, I can understand that the development process cannot be completely linear 365 days a year).
Then there's obviously this group of people that feel the need to make pictures, showing how NOTCH OWES THEM updates during September/October (updates which by the way, is supposedly coming in just one goddamn week).
I can't fucking believe the arrogance of some people.

Is it really so serious that we need charts and graphs explaining how we have been duped and raped of our $10? I mean I have spent more on bad Chinese take out that had to be thrown out.
At least the game offered most people a fair amount of entertainment value. On average, about one month if not longer. For today, that amount of money for entertainment is pretty good considering going to see a one hour movie will cost about $12 and has close to zero replay or extended value.
Maybe we all just need to sit down and breath into a paper bag....
Is it really so serious that we need charts and graphs explaining how we have been duped and raped of our $10?
Apparently so...
As for all of the arguing going on in here, I have a couple of things to say:
I understand the complaint that there haven't been regular updates like he said there would be. But you can't use that against him as, by your own admission, his site didn't say that when you bought the game. And I quote:
Quote:
Wrong champ, when he took my money the minecraft site was nothing more than a text document that said nothing like that at all.
&

And since the website made no promises for updates at the time of rendered payment, you have no logical argument for demanding updates.
I also took note of how you and every other person that bought the game and now complain about the lack of updates (believe me, they are fucking everywhere right now), have absolutely no idea of what it takes to implement some of the things that he has been working on. How long did it take him to develop the initial code? I'm betting that what he is working on right now is almost as complex as that. But since I'm not Notch, I have absolutely no fucking clue what he is doing. And since you aren't Notch either, I don't think that you could possibly know what he has been doing or how difficult/time consuming it actually is.

The fact that different biomes will now be randomly generated into the world is what is really exciting to me.
This is the type of stuff that takes a longer period of time to code because of all the work on the algorithms that has to be done, and i'd rather have updates like these that are spaced apart by a month or two then some weekly update with shit new features that really don't impact the game that much anyways.
Holy shit - that picture is just retarded, who made it?
No idea, it showed up on the minecraft forums in several threads back in September.

Since some people don't seem to get how the development has changed pre-money and after money, yes sometimes pictures are needed to drill the point home.

I think we've been through this a million times in a million different venues, but you can't just compare different entertainment sources like that.

Yes, damn those paying customers for expecting more out of their product.
A lot of people bought this game based on the old development. Before the end of September anyone tied into minecraft was talking about how Notch was updating it so much, and constantly adding things (which was true for June/July and probably before)
So if you're constantly told that, and then you plunk down money for it and updates don't happen, its easy to feel mislead.
Especially when the guy takes in millions and barely lets on what he's doing except playing Civ 5.
Let me go eat dinner, spend 15 bucks on some food, come back and cry in the forums tomorrow when i crap it down the toilet.
Unless people are so shut, you should be able to see the guy is starting a company for the game, and for himself, while hes at it hes also doing what he needed, a new update to reel people in again, $$ too, everyone bought it knowing it was an incomplete game that ACTUALLY was worth it as it was. whatever people wanna argue, he is doing what he wants to do and the best thing too, expanding.
Let him be, stop whinning, 15 fucking bucks, and it not like he left his game to rot, ffs, people keep overeacting at everything, are they so f.... bored? go play minecraft on a new world ffs. oh wait....
If I was the developer I'd just tell 4chan dimwits to piss off and then sell the whole thing to highest buyer, thus turning the game into a commercial joke. Best way to repay the ass-hurt caused by adolescent-minded turds.
1. If you pay to SUPPORT a developer that released a game in ALPHA stage, realize what the hell you are doing. You don't really buy anything, you support the developer and get an alpha build to play with. That's IT. Not happy? Fuck off and die!

I'd honestly be pretty content with a few MP fixes. The Halloween update is looking fantastic, too ... worth my $14, easily.
I think a few people are scared that Notch is gonna fuck everything up now that he's got lots of cash to swim around in, but I'm thinking it's too early to rage. Kind of a big life change for him.
I bet he gets mad nerd pussy. That takes time and energy to deal with, y'know?
Someone just get rid of that fucking idiot already, got my entertainment out of it so who cares and there is more to come whenever it does. Just because you lack patiences dosen't mean OMG TEH MINECAT IS DED.

Are you that fucking thick? You're talking as if the game has been COMPLETELY ABANDONED!
The only fucking reason you're whining is because the updates hasn't been as frequent as they were when before the sudden rise of people buying it!
What Frant said pretty much sums this up - you got NO promises of updates (BUT THEY'RE COMING FOR FUCKS SAKE) and it said in BIG LETTERS - it's a fucking ALPHA!

How many games have made it to alpha and even beta before being canned? Also, keep in mind that since there is ABSOLUTELY no timetable for completion, you still have almost no argument. See how I said almost? I do agree that development has apparently slowed/ceased in the last month or so. Unfortunately, this does not give me the reason to bitch, because I am a logical person that realizes that even with the best artist/programmer, there are ebbs and flows of imagination/creation.
And my original point still stands, you have no logical argument because, according to you, there were no promises for updates (and for no updates). One should never assume things when it comes to their hard-earned money. And when you do make assumptions, you only have yourself to blame.
I'm reminded of when I was younger and I bought a car from a friend. This car was in fine working order when I purchased it, so I assumed that it had at least some maintenance done. When the car broke down two weeks later due to a cracked head (that had apparently been bandaged with a substance called liquid glass), I went to this so-called friend and asked what the fuck was going on? He told me buyer beware and I haven't talked to him since. Even though he was dishonest and was partially to blame, I learned that I was half at fault for assuming that everything was fine.
This parable might not have everything in common with your argument(s), but the reasoning/logic is simple: Don't ever assume anything. Only believe what you can see at the time of purchase. And finally, don't be a douchey dumbass and complain to the whole world when you feel that you've made a mistake. It only makes everyone else dislike you. Like my dad used to tell me, "Pain is a great teacher, so just fucking walk it off."
