Right my spare console has decided to do a E74 on me, so of i goes to register and repair it on the xbox webiste..

I goes to look at the serial on the back *takes note* and just so happened to see the number inside the front flap covering the two USB ports (which is stuck open) and its a different number to that on the back Confused Confused

Is this possible?? How ! ?
Im not as fortunate to be able to flash my own console, so i get a mate to do it for peanut's. The last time it's been opened was to upgrade to 1.51.

Are MS going to notice this if i manage to send it off for repair's?

Yes I would think so. Sounds like the housing has been swapped over from another console if the serials dont match. If you bought the machine new, then that really would be a surprise. I can only assume it was pre-owned though.

May the NFOrce be with you always.

First, you have to register the serial on the outter plastic shell of the console on the site for repairs.

Make sure the inner metalic case serial matches the outter shell (this is actually very important). Your motherboard serial is probably something completely way off but your metalic casing and the outter plastic shell MUST have matching serial numbers.

Also they dont care if the drive is flashed or not. I used to have a theory ( a long time ago) that maybe they plug in a device using a sata cable to the DVD drive to check its firmware but this is false. Now I look at it this way; If its got RROD, you can't see which discs it can and cannot read. So dont worry about flashing it back to stock.

However, there is a little silver sticker at the front of the DVD drive. Sometimes people like to remove this sticker when flashing. Its attached to the front middle of the drive and is also attached to the metallic casing. Make sure this sticker is still in place and flatten this sticker out nicely.

Make sure all the screws are in place and attach the final sticker carefully and youre done.

Thank's for the reply guy's. The console was originally new, but as mentioned, i had a mate flash it for me.

I've had time to open up the console and check the serial on the bottom, and it matches that of whats stated by the two serials on the front.

So now im left with a mismatch lid.... My mate is playing the 'i know nothing' routine Rolling Eyes So what am i left with?
Is it just an expensive paperweight or is it worth sending in?
