I am weighing up whether to buy Dragon Age Origins on the PC or PS3, long story driven games need comfort and you just don't that with desktop systems.
What's your take?

PC, better HUD and I can't see playing a RPG like that with a pad. Laughing

Also you get to make your own AI scripts in the PC version, whereas in console ones it's impossible.

For example, you can make a script that makes AI attack always the lower level enemies first, or use a health potion when their health is below 30%... Combinations are limitless.

In a way you're right I did get very bad rsi down my left arm from playing MMO's so much.
Now, I use a natural keyboard and have re-arranged my desk and chair layout.

"pc + controller, so you get the shiny gfx and the comfort too"

Sounds a great idea, I could use my 360 pad.

"For example, you can make a script that makes AI attack always the lower level enemies first, or use a health potion when their health is below 30%... Combinations are limitless."

Well, there is the decider right there, i was ignorant of the ai scripting and it's lack on the console versions, the ability to script will be essential to me.

I have a PS3, 360 and a good PC that can play all games.

But I still much prefer playing on the PC. I don't know, I've always felt it's much much more comfortable. I have a really comfortable sofa in front of the TV and my computer chair is great as well, but I think it has more to do with the ease in playing and I'm not talking about the controls but rather the fact that it often times goes faster to boot up most games and load new areas. Saving is almost instant in most games (though some are reaaaal drags). I don't know, there's just very little interruption.

Plus, if I want to, I can just pause, alt-tab and I'll be at the desktop. I don't have to physically raise myself from the sofa and go to the computer if I want to do something (like checking my mail, releases, etc).

But then I know a friend of mine who is the absolute opposite, he much prefers his TV/PS3 to his computer even though he also prefers a mouse/keyboard to a controller in games. Razz I'm definitely getting Dragon Age for the PC though, the UI and everything is just much more appropriate for the PC version. And yes, I know the console version has a completely different UI but I thought it looked much more annoying to use than the PC version.

@TB, why don't you get the same kind of comfort at the computer? Don't you have a comfortable chair?

Yeah I have a nice leather chair but the rsi can be intense sometimes, but I spose I'll have to take a couple of painkillers and man it up for DA: Origins.

how about doing exercises or maybe even take a break from gaming altogether?
if you continue like this, it will get much, much worse

if you ignore the rsi signs you might end up as an invalid
especially if you at some point are losing strength in your limbs
the damage might irreversible

re: ignoring the rsi signs

I have sworn off pc gaming for the last couple of months to give my limbs a bit of a rest, and have decided to limit pc gaming to just DA: Origins for the foreseeable future and even then I expect to limit my time on the game to maybe a couple of hours a day.

But yes, posters are completely correct that you shouldn't ignore rsi.
