For example the game Chronicles of mystery the tree of life is released .
But in many cases ppl upload to newsleecher newsgroups games with strange shortcuts filesname like for example : clf-rld and in many cases when you search for the release name wich is the name of the game you dont find it while its on but with some other files names .

Any way or idea how you can searc/find this files names of releases ?

Cauz when i search for Chronicles it didnt find the release but maybe someone uploaded it as com-tol ? i mean how can i find it and other stuff ?

Thanks .

As it's been posted before (It's not linking to anything after all.) the name for this should be something like.

CHRONICLES.OF.MYSTERY.THE.TREE.OF.LIFE-ADDICTION and "ADD-CMTL.*"

EDIT: NFO.
 Spoiler:

(Should look OK, I don't know anything about the game itself however so I can't say more but isn't it a German title?)

Look for a newsgroup indexing site.

It depends. If you know who released it then it's just a matter of finding out the abbreviation for that group - rzr is Razor, rld Reloaded, vty Vitality - and using some search site or other (I think it begins with G. ). If you're speculatively searching, or it's an old game, then just search for the acronym that the title makes. Test Drive Unlimited, for example, would be tdu. The basic shortened naming conventions are game-title-acronym "hyphen" abbreviation-of-release-group-name.

It all comes from the DOS limitations of 8.3 filename conventions. Three letters for the group release name, upto five for the filename, final three for the extention.

What I can't remember is whether it was solely a DOS limitation or Unix too.

=Edit=

Ah, just found out. It was solely due to DOS. Unix had no filename limitations.

Torrent trackers, especially good private ones. I acquire filenames, get release from usenet and if I am in the mood seed it back to improve ratio Smile

Please STOP REQUESTING filenames. This ALWAYS leads to somebody posting links to indexing sites or direct downloads.
